I have been getting lots of headaches and have had 5 migraines in the last 6-7 weeks!
I have been told there isn't anything I can do except take panadol which I can't when my heads down the toilet all day Any suggestions?? Someone told me Cartiar works.

I wouldnt take cartia without asking your Dr or midwife first as it thins the blood as this could potential cause problems.
I had terrible headaches for months and months when I was preg, and there was nothing that could be done for them either. I was just told to rest with my legs up. Apparently mine were due to my body not coping with the increased blood volume you have in pregnancy.
I had to leave work at 20 weeks preg, and finely felt ok at about 8 months preg.
 I hope yours improve soon.

I also suffer from migraines and found that gel packs work (Once put on they stay cold for a few hours). You can buy ones for migraines from the pharmacy you just stick them to your forehead or the back of you neck. Back of the neck is good to help with the vomiting. You could also try travel sick tablets but make sure you ask pharmacist for ones safe during pregnancy. I used travel sick tablets for morning sickness when I needed to fly to the uk , it helped a little. Also invest in an eye mask and some ear plugs.
Hope that will help a bit.

Hopefully you will find that they settle down. I got a heap at the start of my pregnancy but once the hormone levels settled they stopped totally. I got more after I had Elle, then none once breastfeeding was established. Mine are very much hormone related though.
I find coffee and choc help + lying in a quiet dark room. For some coffee is a trigger so be careful though.

 Hope they settle down soon.

Grr migraines! I had to go off my meds before I got pg, I was taking pills 3 times a day and still got migraines, so now they're like supersized! Best thing is to lie down and get heaps of rest. Not easy if you're working, but there's not much else you can do about it! Oh, and fluids, fluids, fluids. Good luck, hope they get better soon.

   I suggest accupuncture.
I use to get migraines once a week a few years ago. I started accupuncture, which almost got rid of them. I still go to accupuncture every so often to help prevent them. I've only had 2 during my pregnancy.

The best of luck. Migrains are just awful!

I was lucky and only got headaches when I first fell prgenant but had one every day for a few weeks. I found if I could sleep just as I felt it coming on it helped a bit. I was told to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Having said that its impossible when you are working. I have seemed to have settled down now and haven't had one for a few weeks.
I hope this is just a stage and they will stop for you soon.

Hi Star Previous to my pregnancy I was one of the lucky migraine sufferers, I lost vision, bit of vomiting but no actual pain....   I think migraines during pregnancy are different to normal migraines...  I've had two migraines since getting pregnant both have had the pain...  The first one I didn't know I could take panadol,  the second didn't last as long just 1 day instead of 2 so maybe the panadol helped a bit. Increase of fluids, especially caffeine (it helps the production of the fluid that is around your brain) and lots of rest.  being upright can make the headache worse.  Maybe you need to vomit into a bucket so you can limit the amount of time you are standing up... I hope they go away soon.

Is it ok to have caffeine though? I havent been having any since becoming pregnant. I guess its one of those debatable subjects but maybe I should try that too.
Thanks everyone for your advice. Fingers crossed they go soon.

The recommendation for caffeine that I was given was 3 cups of coffee or 6 cups of tea a day, but like you say is debatable as some say none at all.
I think trying it when you have a migraine couldn't hurt. Panadol make tablets that contain caffeine you could try those.

I've been avoiding caffeine, but have the occasional coke....  I went off coffee at the begining of my pregnancy and now love the smell but don't enjoy the taste.  I do hope that changes eventually. It is one of those debateables...  but I agree trying it when you have a migraine should be ok. |

   Fingers crossed for you Star.
I've been a headache/migraine sufferer for years, and on the whole they seem to have improved during my pregnancy - except for this week. I woke with a horrible headache yesterday, thought it may be lack of fluid, but after sleeping on and off yesterday and pumping in just under 2 litres of liquid, it's still there today. I'm thinking (no painkillers yet) that if panadol doesn't take the edge of it, I may head off to the osteopath as I think (now) it may be coming from my neck.

Let us know how you get on
