Miscarriage/progesterone/PG

Ok so one of the reasons for MC can be low progesterone right?

So say I get PG again soon, I want to go on progesterone straight away, more as a precaution rather than anything else - so is this something I should sort out now before I get PG – or can I get my BFP and then go into my GP the very next day for a prescription?

And then I the other question is would this be a job for your GP or midwife?

I have had two MC and feel like no one really gives a stuff until you have 3, so am trying to do everything I can for myself.

Popstress i had to get the progesterone pessaries from a fertility specialist, i also started them on the day of ovulation.

Popstress....   I got my prog pessaries from FS too... and would recommend taking them a few days after ov... perhaps from 7dpo because that is when prog peaks, from the follicle that released the egg, and thus maintaining your prog levels.    They are quite expensive.. so you may have to budget for them

Its mainly anecdotal stuff, and I think is UK based, I'm only on page 3 so far! My understanding was that progesterone supplementation is only effective if started literally the day after ovulation. The general discussion on this thread seems to be around starting after 7DPO when your levels usually start to drop, then taking for 2 weeks to tide the embryo over until it can produce Hcg to continue the feedback loop to keep producing progesterone (apologies if this is completely wrong and I'm leading you up the garden path!)
I also have read that the vaginal suppositories are most effective, followed by the topical cream, with the pills least effective, due to the amount of time the increased progesterone actually spends circulating in blood (not long)

I also understand in the medical profession that prog supplementation is quite a controversial topic. Unfortunately my gynae specialist is one of those who does not seem to think it works/wasn't interested to pursue further.

Just out of interest, anyone give me a ballpark figure re how much we're looking at for pessaries? (I'll be mega surprised if I can wheedle a script for them out of anyone I'm seeing, but at least to take the sting out of my purse!)

My plan so far is to
(1) get utd.
(2) Try not to get too attached (wish me luck!) to a positive outcome.
(3) When I get a +POAS, go to docs for BT, and at that time, ask for them to check prog levels. I would like these monitored throughout the first trimester/as long as the pregnancy persists, whatever ends first

Either way, I'll know if the progesterone REALLY is the issue from a real pregnancy. My 7DPO result was good, but I'm not convinced my levels are sufficient for the luteal phase for implantation

Oh and in relation to the OP, if you can get progesterone "as a precaution" good luck to you! I can understand your reasoning completely, hopefully your doc will too.
Personally I would recommend the BFP first and get your levels checked with HcG BT confirmation, but then thats cos its my gameplan too. If doc is another of those "not enough clinical evidence to support this" types, maybe if you have a midwife as LMC and explain your concerns to here, she might be able to monitor prog levels although I'm pretty sure she can't prescribe progesterone. Might just send you back to doc?

I've only heard you can get them thru specialist too. Anyone know why a GP can't refer if levels are shown to be low?
Surely by the time you get to a specialist after a BFP (presuming you haven't gone through IVF or suchlike) its too late to intervene?

no of course not, I guess it would be hard to take straight after ov unless you were having monitored ov with USS.

How then? positive OPK with definite temp rise for 2 days from at least a day after opk? Thats still 2 days past ov.
Just that what I'd heard was the effectiveness was supposed to be straight after ov and no later, but I know, the thread says otherwise, with good results.

Thats the trouble with the internet, lots of conflicts in info. Hard to build a valid case for a disbelieving doc!

I started my pessaries the day I got my BFP (13DPO). I had my blood test in the morning, and progesterone was checked at the same time, results were through by lunchtime and I picked up my prescription and my pessaries that afternoon. I was under a FS for recurrent m/c also.
