Topic: Movies, what to watch... Posted: 07 February 2010 at 6:36pm |
This is only to see what others are wanting to go see, or have seen and recommend. I'm just being curious!
What movies are you wanting to go watch at the moment?
Or what movies at the Video store do you recommend?
Atm, I really want to go see Precious, or It's complicated. Last 2 movies I saw were Avatar and The Lovely Bones. Dp and I go to the movies quite often, at least once a month otherwise we rent instead, although that will probably change once bubs arrives.

the sherlock holmes movie was excellent!
i wanted to see the lovely bones but then didnt hear a good review about it so changed my mind.

Alec Baldwin could never be sexy, surely... Ew
I definitely want to see that movie though! And once I work out what Nine is about (the trailer just shows all these big names and never explains the movie!) I'll probably want to see that too.
What's Precious about? From what I've seen it's a 16 year old girl pregnant with her second child who... Sings? Doesn't sound that great :/
ETA that I've heard such good things about Sherlock Holmes, that's the next movie I want to watch!

Totally agree Bizzy, didn't expect much from its complicated but I loved it, just the right mix of stuff. Funny and clever, some laugh out loud moments.
I have heard that precious has made it into the top 10 of most depressing films of all time and is nearly at the top of that list, its supposed to be really hard. its about a girl who gets abused by both mother and father and thats not the half of it, the trailer almost had me in tears.

amend that - oprah is an executive producer. it does have lenny kravitz and mariah carey in it... and i couldnt find anything about it being fact based in any way. oh but it is based on a book!
it reminds me a bit - but only cause of its dark content - of Christain F... a move i saw YEARS ago with my mum about a drug using teenager.

I just watched Precious - take a big box of tissues! I don't normally cry but it had me bawling my eyes out, over and over. A beautifully told story. Reminds me of Once Were Warriors in the way it is a section of society, brutally, honestly portrayed.
I'd love to see Avatar, just for the special effects. Sherlock Holmes would be another on my list of must watch that at some point movies. I have New Moon to watch (I'm trying to understand the whole Twilight thing but so far he still looks like a sparkly douchebag in a tree.).

I quite like Steve Martin, he makes me laugh. Alec Baldwin though... Hmm haven't seen a whole lot of movies with him in them...
Lovely Bones was alright I guess, I'd read the book so that was why I wanted to see it, it was pretty true to the book, but there was a few things they didn't include, or changed...
As far as I know Nine is about a guy trying to make a stage show musical isn't it? That's what I got from the trailer I saw.
I cried during the trailer for Precious, that never happens to me so I'll blame hormones , but might wait til that comes out on dvd then watch it.
DP saw Sherlock without me, he took his little brother to see it.

Hahaha sparkly douchebag! Yeah I enjoyed the books better, I have to admit I always feel disappointed after watch Twilight. Same with New Moon...
Avatar was good, I don't usually like those sorts of movies but figured I'd go see what all the fuss was about, tbh it took about the first 20mins of the movie for my eyes to adjust to the 3d glasses. And I probably spent a good part of the movie admiring the colours and special effects than actually watching the movie!!

That is true, do any of your local movie theaters have loyalty cards or certain days are cheaper etc?
We find it's about 20 dollars each to go, we take our own food and drink though which makes it cheaper other wise it would be quite expensive.

If you go to Village (Skycity) cineams on Tuesdays its a lot cheaper, most movies are about $15.50 on any other day/night.
I love animated movies, seen Avatar and loved it... want to see Planet 51 and Chipmunks : The Squeakle (sp?)
Precious is about a teenage girl being abused in more ways than one by both parents and ends up pregnant to her father... its apprently right up there in all the reviews... Dont think I will go and see it myself though.. I leave 'serious' movies for when I'm at home and can react however I like without the general public seeing the messy after-effects.
Oooh, I wanna see valentines Day too...

I haven't seen Alvin and the Chipmunks yet, I did want to watch it because it had the guy from My Name Is Earl in it (he named his kid Pilot Inspektor in real life apparently lol...)

We've been to see Avatar and Sherlock Holmes since Alex was born. I didn't get what all the fuss was about with Avatar (although I didn't see it in 3D) - the story was just like Dances with Wolves, and isn't going to the movies supposed to be about the story, not the effects?? Or is that just me?
I really enjoyed Sherlock Holmes though - but then I am a big Robert Downey Jr fan.
In terms of video store movies - my favourite movie ever is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I'd HIGHLY recommend it!

Precious!

I just saw Coraline on the weekend which was cool and Year One was funny. I am hanging out this month to see Julie and Julia, 500 days of summer, Funny People, and next month I can't wait for the Time Travellers Wife.

I'm going to see Nine tonight. I keep getting asked what it's about and actually have no idea really!
I'd still like to see The Lovely Bones despite some of the reviews and Avatar as well.

The trailer for Precious made me cry also, and I very rarely cry during any movie/tv show. I agree that I would like to see it but at the same time I don't want to!
I'm not a rugby fan but the movie about the world cup in South Africa looks good. Think it's called invictus

Judging by the shorts for the rugby one, Matt D puts on an accent, or am I hearing things? lol...
I enjoyed Year One, although it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be...
I actually really liked Little Miss Sunshine.
I suppose one of my favourite movies of all time would be Fargo...
I can't seem to watch any movies with Rachel McAdams anymore, well not after the Notebook, lol.

Invictus is a good watch, just as long as you like rugby! Matt Damon plays the captain of the Springboks, and so has a South African accent (which I happen to think is pretty sexy)
