Hi, I would like to know, what is the latest I can wait to move from Auckland to Dunedin while pregnant? I want to leave it as late as possible but it is going to be a lot of hard work and I DON'T want to go into labour in Auckland or end up being unable to travel because I left it too late. I could be driven to Dunedin (by my husband over 4 days or so) or I could fly by myself, which would you recommend?

Also, as I am moving cities mid-pregnancy I will need to change midwives. Can I book a Dunedin based midwife early in my pregnancy even though I won't need them until much later? I don't want to miss out on the midwife I want just because I had to move house mid-pregnancy.

Any advice or reference to good information sources would be appreciated, thanks.

book a midwife now, let them know of the situation.

and personally if you are bwfore 36 weeks i'd fly down, its what a 2hr flight if you go direct vs 4 days in a car

Yes - I found out we were moving from Manawatu to Auckland early in my pregnancy and got in contact with an Akl MW early on.

I didn't move to Akl in the end till I was 34 weeks pregnant, we drove as Dh and I had cars to move as well took a long time as had to stop a lot as its uncomfortable travelling in a car for this length of time.

I'd recommend flying if you can it's only a couple of hours then, driving would take a couple of days.

Word of advice don't leave it too long, I thought I had heaps of time, turned out DD had other ideas and came 3 weeks after we moved.

ETA - Get movers to move you, there is now way I was capable of packing and unpacking my house at that stage of pregnancy.

Thanks so much. So you reckon if we hired movers I would be ok at 32 weeks? I'm a little worried that being a first time mum is enough without the stress of moving but we can't do anything about that now. We'll just have to suck it up

If you get mover than I think 32 weeks would be fine. We moved at 34weeks (but just across town) and we didn't have movers and honestly it was too much. Movers would have made all the diference.
