Went to kmart today to get Jake a raincoat cause stupid mummy left his other one in Gisborne. Anyway, they are having 30% off kids clothing. Well, the checkout girl wouldn't give me discount off the raincoat. I looked at the poster and it said "excluding hosiery, sleepwear and underwear". raincoat none of those right? She told me that a raincoat wasn't clothing. When i asked what exactly it was then, she got the supervisor who explained to me, that a raincoat is SPORTING GOODS!!!! For what sport I asked? I was told it was head office decision. So am off to write to head office and Fair Go and by god, I'll be getting my $5.01 if it kills me.

You go Liz!! I don't know of any sport that lists raincoat as a requirement or any sport where a raincoat is worn to play. It is definitely clothing to me as well.

where did they have it? With the other childrens clothing or in the sporting goods section?

perhaps they consider jumping in puddles a new sport, or they are considering making some summer sports winter ones by changing the uniform to include raincoats (I can see the black caps now, on the cricket wicket their whites covered by a nicely styled rain coat)

Good luck! and don't forget consumer magazine as well.

Well if it helps you any, I used to work at Rebel Sport, and we didn't stock raincoats ! Showerproof windbreakers, maybe, and very VERY few waterproof jackets. Especially if it was a kids one, you are well within your right to see it as clothing - completely agree with you on that one.

Sporting goods? What planet are they on?

But I can't complain about Kmart this week - I got a heap of baby button-down singlets for $2 each...

how ridiculous, so working on that theory would sneakers be classed as sporting goods rather than footwear. I hate it when places try to pull this sort of thing.

The rain coats are in the clothing section. I'm so lame. I got a reply back from Fair go but think it's just the general one they send to everyone. I got a really nice jersey today too for $20 so shouldn't complain too much.....

LMAO
Oh Liz, you keep on pushing. Blackmail works nicely on places like that. Tell them that FairGo was very keen on your complaint and are currently compiling similar cases.

What about Gumboots - are they not footwear?

Reason I say that is Gumboots and Jackets go together (for obvious reasons!!) so if there is a footwear sale are gumboots excluded too??

Liz - I reckon write to the Manager of KMart (I assume you went to the Palmy one?!) and talk about false advertising, fair go being contacted, and that the jacket wasnt on an "exclusion to sale" rack or no tags on raincoat that is wasn't in the sale.
It is their fault that if the raincoats weren't suppose to be part of the sale that they weren't displayed accordingly.
If you want me to help with a letter let me know!! I am ruthless when push comes to shove!!
