Topic: Mysterious... birthmark?? Posted: 09 February 2009 at 5:50pm |
It's on her chest, had it since birth. just looks like a patch of goosebumps and it has fine blonde hair. MW and Plunket nurse are stumped.
While we're all having a look, is that an inverted nipple? her other nipple is normal looking.

Hmm, I don't know about the birthmark but both my babies looked as if they had inverted nipples (Isobelle still does) at the same age. Dom's came right as he got older.

Thomas has the same thing. Apparently it's a form of eczema. It doesnt seem to bother him tho, he's got it in a few places - and he has the inverted nipple thing, but when he's cold they're normal.

Joel has a few patches that look the same, I just assumed it was patches of exzema. I use aveena cream on it and that helps.

Excema makes sense as it's definatly in the genes, she has a bit of a rash that's excema-like too. However it hasn't changed in any way at all since birth. It goes a little bit red when she is hot but it hasn't gotten bigger or smaller and it's the same shape. Could it still be excema?
Good about the nipple too, I thought maybe it was just what baby nipples are like, just thought it was odd that one was normal looking and one is inverted looking. Yay that it will probably pop out

Ohh that looks like the funny patches caden gets over his back and stuff, its like dry skin I think, like what missangel said, a type of eczema.
Cadens eventually went away and now he only gets little patches.

It looks like excema to me too, as for the nipple that's pretty normal for preschoolers.

That's good then, if it's excema it should go away eventually. I was imagining it is some sort of birth mark that will get dark and hairy.

Birthmarks arnt bumpy like that usually, DF has two birthmarks one on his tummy which is very very light brown and one on his leg which is a dark brown and oval, and they are both like his normal skin.
I have one on my wrist, one of those strawberry ones and its the same as the skin on my wrist. If you know what I mean? lol
Jodys definitly looks like some kind of dry skin. I use aqueous cream on Caden

You can go & get a skin scraping for free with the Dr. Nice & easy & painless.
I had one done with Alia when she was 4 months old & I discovered that she has a patch on her tummy that was like Michael Jackson (only way to explain it) but skin scrapings showed that it was just a lack of pigment not the disease that MJ has.

It hasn't changed at all since birth and doesn't bother her at all. It doesn't seem dry or anything either, just exactly like a patch of goosebumps with blonde hairs. I won't worry about treating it with anything since it isn't bothering her. The Plunket nurse is monitoring it for any change.
The mw thought it may be some kind of birth mark which is rare and she hadn't seen one before, just pictures, she had a name for it but I have forgotten and she wasn't sure either.
I'm not worried about it at all, just curious

Looks a lot like Cs dermatitis, but hers have come and gone (not remained the same since birth). And she has had lots of patches at once rather than just one Will be interesting to hear what it is (if and when you find out!)
The nipple looks fine to me.

I have got emu oil which works wonders so I will see if it makes any difference.
TBH I'm not really convinced it's excema or dermatitis just because it has always been the same. She does get excema type rashes that come and go, always changing shape/redness etc. This just seems so permanent.

My DH has a few brown birth marks with lots of light hairs and one which I hadn't really thought of as a birth mark similar to your bubs (on his shoulder blade), it goes really red ( like a flushed face)when he is hot. It has kinda goose bumps but not as raised and is slightly redder but doesn't have the hairs and he said its been there for as long as he can remember and doesn't cause him any probs.

That sounds exactly like Jody's!! I guess it's just hairy because her shoulders are still a bit hairy from birth. Yeah, the bumps probably aren't quite as raised as normal goosebumps, they look like it though. And it does go a bit red when she is really hot.
Hooray! The mystery is solved!
It is a mysterious patch just like Verena's DH's mysterious patch
