Well as a nanny I would have loved to get that much, but not much work going where I lived so I had parttime work with a special need's family so it was not the best pay. I know it seeem's expesive, but I think you pay for waht you get really.  You want a good nanny with expirence then they are going to want good pay if that make's scence.

thanks everyone. I might do a bit of research at the P&C show in Oct. I am planning on going back to work part-time end of January and really struggling with the idea of putting Ella in daycare or even in home based care- I just think at this age one on one attention is best. Just need to convince DH that we can afford it |

I did a bit of research on this a while ago. Depending on what agency you go through, the rates vary from about $13 an hour to $25.
Personally, I'd not just go for the $13 place simply because they were cheapest. For me, my son is the most important thing in my life and I would want him to receive the best care. If that meant paying $25 an hour for a highly qualfied, motivated, professional nanny then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

In saying that, I have a friend who is a Porse carer, and I don't think she gets anything like $25 an hour, yet I'd say she's worth as much as the super qualified nannies from the *best* agency.

I guess it's all down to luck..... Finding the best person for your child regardless of cost.

My sister was a nanny for the same family for four years, she has just recently left the job to be an assistant manager of a childcare. (she's a trained teacher)
When she left her job she was on $19.50 per hour. From what I understand from her, the going rates are between $14 - $20 that is dependant on the age of the children, how many children, and if there is a baby in the family.

She fully recommends Porse as they basically do all the hard work for you eg: pay the nanny, do ongoing training and support for the nanny etc.
