OK I know I've been a mummy for 8 months but I'm not experienced in the ways of nappy rash - Ella's only had it once before, and it wasn't bad.  Then she got one that suddenly appeared just before a top tooth did, and it was much worse than the last rash.  It's healing quickly - what I'm wondering is - is it normal for nappy rash to peel??  Both times as it's healed, a layer of skin has peeled off.  Does that sound right for nappy rash?

Yep - sounds about right to me ! We have been dealing with almost a continual rash for five months now, ranging from mild to severe at times, and once Erin's skin started to heal from the worst of it she peeled like crazy - my GP said that often the skin will react the same way as if it had been sunburned, and so the dead skin has to come off.

Edit: We just make sure that if Erin's skin does start to look dry or peel, that we use a good moisturiser on the area at every nappy change.

Yip we've dealy with that too. My doctor prescribed zinc & castor oil and then in another tube a cream called miconazole cream. It works wonders. When the rash appears again we use it and it clears up really quickly.

When Andrew got this bad we bathed his bum in pintarsinal (the yellow water stuff) and then lathered his bum in am-o-lin cream and it cleared up quickly. You can get the am-o-lin from new world.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Cheers, everyone.  It's cleared up nicely - I just really didn't know if nappy rash peeled or not!  I guess we're just lucky not to have had to deal with it often.

like erin, charli has had a rash for the last few months, ranging from mild to severe. i've tried johnsons nappy rash cream which seems to work well, bepanthen (sp?), micreme, zinc and castor cream.....

the lady at jack's daycare swears by colloidal silver cream. we have it in a spray which works great on all sorts of things so i'm going to the chemist this week to get a cream and see if it makes a difference.
