I am new to this forum chat thing, so please let me know if I am in the wrong place!
I just wonder if anyone can offer any help or support. I can't understand what I am doing wrong! My kids seem to have been sick constantly for the last few months and I feel like an incompetent mum at the moment, even I seem to be more sick than usual! (but as usual its all about the kids first) so far my 4yr old daughter has had a chest infection, 2 ear infections and conjunctivitis, not to mention the general colds. My two year old son has had a chest infection, throat infection and now an ear infection, as well as the general colds. I dress them warmly, I try to feed them well balance diets, but I am worried about their low immunity and the number of times they have had antibiotics so far and it's only just started really getting into winter. Not helping is my mother in my ear saying "you kids only ever got sick twice a year!" ARGHHH What can I do to help them to be happier and healthier, I feel so sorry for them!

firstly and welcome to ohbaby!
i'm not sure what the answer is but maybe you need to look at what's changed in their life lately seems your mum thinks they never got sick this much.....
have you moved house?
do they go to daycare..which can boost immune system but also expose them to more illnesses?
don't blame yourself hun! my 2 have had so many colds and coughs already this year.....charli has had the same cold for 2wks now

I haven't got much advice I'm sorry so have a hug
I've always found that if I (or Caitlin) always end up with more colds than "normal" after a course of anti-biotics because they blast your system and it takes a while for the body to fight the germs on it's own.
I eat lots of pro-biotic yogurt after anti-biotics and that seems to keep me going.
Don't beat yourself up though - some people just pick up more colds than others
Hope you all get better soon

Heya
stop being so hard on yourself chick , you sound like your doing everything you can do to prevent them , unfortunatly , some kids just have a lower immunity , my daughter gets colds quite frequently too, and in this weather, its bound to happen .
I guess all you can do is keep doing what your doing and keep giving lots of fluids etc , and vitamin C etc ..
hope they feel better soon ,its horrible when they are sick

i really felt the same but its nothing that can be helped, your doing the best you can and im sure your doing a fantastic job!

 huge hugs!!
i had a similair thing...
my kids had been constantly sick since the weeks before the last school hols and have only just in the past week or so seem to be in the all clear again!
i felt like the worst mum having kids constantly with coughs/colds/infedctions... not a nice feeling and VERY exhausting
all i can say is it did get better for me so im sure it will soon for you too!! and it sint your fault! so be nice to yourself!
that house sick show made me more aware and i checked my youngest daughters room (she was the worst) and it was quite damp so we now have the dehumidefier going most of the time and i continue to keep the house warm...
goodluck sending get better vibes to you xoxox

Wow! Who would have guessed I could have got so much support and felt so much better over the internet! There are some amazing people out there, thank you for everyone who replied to my plea for help and just knowing I am not alone and seem to be doing the right thing was a huge help. I do have one other thing that really plays on my mind and I don't discuss it with anyone and if I do I laugh it off and pretend it doesn't bother me and I'm going to sound like moaning murtle, but I'm not always down I promise! However I want to know how to sleep more lightly! Crazy I know, but my husband gets up to the kids at night and that was something we agreed on because he copes better than I do with less sleep however, I sleep so deeply that my husband could be up 5-6 times between our two kids in the night and I will wake up in the morning and be none the wiser. I will not have heard or felt him got up and I would not hear either of my kids. I will have to ask my husband in the morning if the kids had a good night or not and I will not even know if one of them is in bed with us until I wake in the morning. Most people I've told have said "lucky you, make the most of it" but I feel like a really bad mother. Where is my motherly instinct, most mothers say they can hear if their kids breathing even changes!

that's exactly what I was going to say too. My daughter is 2 and we still use a baby monitor.
Perhaps you're just so tired you need that deep sleep? I don't cope well with little sleep either (I think most are like that) so DH and I share the night time wakes.

Why do you feel guilty for an arrangement that works for your family? Is your husband able to wake you if he's needing a break from attending to them? Have you ever had a night on your own with the kids and if so have you been woken by them?
I think our sub-concious mind is programmed to cues when we're asleep. I never used to hear my husband get ready for work early in the morning and he never used to hear me get up to young babies. Maybe you're just programmed not to hear them because you know your husband is getting up to them?
If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

We're the same Ellen, Spencer will wake me and he is in a different room with the door shut, but DH can get up and go to work and I don't even notice and he is right next to me and has an alarm that goes off.
If he is happy to get up in the night then I would let him, I think it is better to have one parent functioning on a good nights sleep than to have two that are sleep deprived.

That's what I was trying to say Cuppatea - better to have one parent functioning on a good nights sleep than to have two that are sleep deprived.

Maybe its because you dont need to, you subconsiously know your husband is going to wake to them. My hubby doesnt wake to them during the night, its always me but if Im away then he has no problem waking to them.
