I'm after some advice from you wise ones :)

I have applied for a job, which is a 12mth maternity contract and they are unsure if this person will return after her year or not, as its her first baby.
Anyway, at the end of the 12mths, if we get pregnant on schedule, I *should* in theory be around about 6mths pregnant. So the chances of them giving me the job as a permanent position are probably relatively slim, right?

This doesn't bother me too much, except for the money side of things. Because it is a contract for a year, I won't get paid parental leave.
Does anyone know if there is there something else I can get from the government that is the equivalent of Paid Parental Leave?

I could just stay at my current job, but I am well past being sick of the stress and c*ap going down here, and the little money that goes with it!

Thanks ladies :)

Hi MrsW.. some of your options are..

stay where you are & still have a job after 12mths & get PPL & keep your job. I think the it is around $4200 for the 14 weeks not 100% sure.

You can take a job for 12mths. She may come back & you have no job or they may not renew your contract so again you may have no job. You may not fall pg in that time either, something to consider.

You may fall pg, take the 12mth job & have baby before it ends. You may leave pg at the 12mths. You can get a pay out for about $1200 if you are not entitled to PPL.

The 12mth contract is a risk so I would be more inclined to take it if you are not bother about having a job after the 12mths.

good luck with your decision

Thanks :)
Not too worried about having a job to return to after baby, and within the next year I will earn more than the PPT payouts anyway.
hmm, decisions decisions!

I definitely see the risk in taking the 12month contract, but, knowing what I know now I wish I'd quit my job 2 years ago! I wanted to, but we were TTC and I wanted to ensure I got my PPL. 2 years on still not UTD and so so sick of my job!

Yup I say just do what you want with the job thing, TTC doesnt always happen to plan, and either way you are entitled to some money from the Gov
Its about being happy and not as stressed - you sound like you are fed up with where you are - a change could be good for you in more ways than one

thanks ladies :)

I had two interviews for the position and when they asked for a third I decided it wasn't for me, for a range of reasons. Happy with my decision :)
