Hi ladies!
I'm gatecrashing!

I joined the gym yesterday *shock, horror, aghast!*
I'm not sure exactly how much I weigh - at a guess, 70-75kgs. I'll be weighing myself this afternoon.
But I want to get down to at least 65kgs (I'm 5'7").

So I'll be hanging out in here, cheering us all on!

Welcome Charly!

My fantastic DH went to metro (supermarket) on the way home last night and bought me some grapes and some watermelon.  It's grocery day today and we were getting pretty low on fresh produce so for the past few days I've been eating a couple of apples a day.  Grapes and watermelon will be a yummy change.

I was reading an article earlier this month about weight loss and it was advising against skipping breakfast because, other than the fact that many people end up eating more in the afternoon/evening if they skip breakfast they say there is too long between dinner and lunch (about 17 hours) and so your body goes into starvation mode storing the food you eat as fat to help you survive, you also have less energy to spare as the body is storing it so you're likely to be lethargic.

This makes a lot of sense to me and, before you think otherwise, I assure you I never skip breakfast (in fact I'm eating mine right now).  But I was thinking about it some more and in my case I have dinner with Michaela around 5:30pm (no later than 6pm) then don't eat again until 7:30am so that's around 14 hours.  I don't eat again in the evening because I don't get hungry, I usually have a few glasses of water and nothing else but the article said that eating kick starts your metabolism (stopping you from going into starvation mode) so I'm thinking that I might have a glass of trim milk or something before bed.

What do you reckon, does that make sense or do you think it's a load of crock?  Will a glass of milk be enough to keep my metabolism working throughout the night or should I have a small snack too?

Perhaps a banana to go with it?
That makes perfect sense, and I agree wholeheartedly.

hehe Julia, if I had more time I'd be up for a trip to Rebel with you.

Jo - yep it does make perfect sense ... I suggest you try to add something to the milk so your body has to work a tad harder to digest it (like some protein powder).

Charly - next time

Oh and talking of togs .. I know for sure I cant fit my pre preggy ones .. so I better pull out the ones I got when I was preggy to see I can fit them .. otherwise I need new ones too for swimming lessons

I haven't owned a pair of togs in years, I really should get some as I don't look great in a bikini anymore (although my bikini is a purpley mauve colour which matches my stretch marks beautifully).

I went through my drawers and wardrobe last night and removed all the clothes I don't fit.  I've chucked out a shopping bag full of stuff from my drawers, I have another shopping bag of clothes to give away and I put heaps of things in a suitcase in my cupboard that I may wear again.  The vast majority were fat clothes (i.e. preggy tops and pants that are a bit big for me now but I can wear during the first wee while before I pop out too much).

I also tried on a pair of pinstripe pants that I've owned for years but haven't fit since before I got pregnant and guess what....... I'm wearing them to work today.  I was so happy!  DH was less than thrilled when I woke him this morning to tell him (he mentioned something about fitting the jeans I bought when we were on honeymoon - I'm too scared to try them on maybe in a few more weeks).

I have just come back from the gym, OMG I killed myself. I ran for 12 minutes straight on the treadmill (ok I took 20 seconds to catch my breath) and ran 1.9km so I have to add 500 metres on to that and I am running at army RFL times!!

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Wow!  Good work Becks.

I still haven't started running but today I am going to buy some new trackpants so that's a start - kind of - and walking around shops can be counted as exercise (can't it?)

I am still stuffed. I think once I have given up the cancer sticks (less than 2 weeks to go) I think the next 500 metres will come quickly.

Yeah, I think you're right about that and exercising is so good for stopping as well, it gives you something else to do if you get cravings and when you're feeling fit and fab you can remember that you weren't like that when you smoked.

God I hope so. I think it was impressive that I smoke 6 or so a day (so not that many really) and I could still run 12 minutes on the TM.
