Topic: Noriday mini pill & BF & TTC...sigh Posted: 18 February 2010 at 8:11pm |
Hi
I'm thinking about stopping TTC just for 3 months or so...Dr has given me Noriday which apparently is safe for BF.
My questions are:
- Is it ok to take while BF? I mean I know they say it is but I want reassurance I'm not gonna get enormous knockers or get fat on it as well lol
- Is it ok to take for just a few months? Or will it take ages to get out of my system and therefore make TTCafterwards harder?
- Is taking it even the righ thing to do given I hate medication? But I can't be arsed temping and using condoms for 3 months...plus I think I'd get tempted to start TTC earlier again lol. So guess my options are limited...
Any experiences with this pill gratefully recieved

So far I havent got fat lol, or got huge boobs, i feel normal, apart from getting cramps and symptoms way before Af was due.
if you dont want to get pregnant, take the pill

As far as I was aware (from my midwife and doctor) it is the pill you take for breastfeeding. I was on it from when Lily was about 3 mths until 16 mths and didn't gain any weight (lost weight actually). Had no effects on me You can still get pregnant on it though as you have to take it at the same time each day, so it shouldn't take time to 'get out of your system' as it is very low dose.

I was on Noriday, still breastfeeding and got pregnant anyways lol so I can vouch that it won't get in the way of your TTC! I never got AF back between giving birth to Lauren and getting pregnant with this one, so I can't say how it affects that. No side effects from it though.

Wow that's been helpful thanks ladies
I was worried cos I only want a *little* TTC break....and I'm getting a bit old and crusty now too (36 next month yikes) so didn't want any BC that would take aaaggges to work itself out of my system.
Also- I haven't been on the pill for 14 years and that time I went from a B cup to a D (and pg has made them DD/E)...so didn't want to end up a K or anything lol
And thanks to BF, I'm enjoying my post pg body too much to get fat from the mini pill lol My fears are allayed.....cheers

Ditto. LOL Actually I was on a different pill but I was pregnant the first month I came off it.
I was on it while bf Alex, then came off it cause it made me a bit loopy. LOL I'm not bf any longer but just gone back on it and a month in all seems fine. I didn't gain any weight (but I don't normally) while on it. I was on the mini pill for nearly 3.5 years after I stopped bf J and never got pregnant, even when I missed or was late taking pills...........but I am not cliché that way.
The only thing I will say is that when *I* am on them AF goes AWOL, but I think suppressing ovulation is one of the 'side effects' but it's one I like cause then I don't get AF every month. I don't normally like taking medication for medication sake but I LOATHE condoms and though I do roughly know when I ovulate because he's not keen on another we don't get to have sex without them so I went back on the pill so we could ditch them.

Noriday is the pill I take even when not BF because the combination pill gives me migraines.
I find Noriday great. Yes, it's safe for BF. I fell pregnant immediately (first month off Noriday) with both babies (& the two I MC). I didn't put any weight on with it, & best of all, for me when I take Noriday I don't get AF-
I think it's different for everyone though. And yes, you need to be really good at taking it at the same time every day.

I found if I set my alarm to go off on my phone every morning it helped with making sure I took it at the same time! It's just a matter of finding the right time for you - 7.30 worked really well for me because I was always up at that point of the day and not usually in the middle of something else (like getting the kids their breakfast, cause I'd already done that by then).

I just want to put it out there that I was on noriday while breastfeeding and I found that my supply really dropped off so I had to come off it. When talking to my dr about it she said its not a normal side effect but that she had a few patients who had the same problem.

I think you have a two hour window (so an hour either side).

I thought it was 3 hours? LOL At any rate I take mine in the am because it's when I am most likely to remember cause the kids are up at roughly the same ungodly hour everyday and we have brekkie first thing. I was taking it at bedtime for a while but as I am really inconsistent with that at times I don't think I'd remember to get it within that window.
The data sheet says if it is more than 3 hours since you 'missed' a dosed (i.e you forgot to take it at the normal time) then don't expect to be protected...............the data sheet can be found here if anyone wants to read it.
