My poor wee man has been suffering from diarrhoea since Sunday night, I dont think I have ever seen so many dirty nappies!! I'm so over it its driving me bonkers and he is so miserable even when he's up especially if he wokes up only after 45 mins of being down as he has another messy nappy. Not much you can do about it though just have to wait it out. Went to the doctor yesterday and he gave us a script for Plasma-Lyte solution (which he has been having for rehydration purposes).

Now I asked my doctor if I can use pamol and he said "no not unless he has a fever". Here is my question - now is he just saying that or can I give him some?

I feel so awful for him but I tell you sick babies really test your patience (especially with having lack of sleep).

Hi,

I REALLY feel for you, my wee man had a really bad vomiting and diarrhea bug a few weeks back, the vomiting lasted about 4 days but the diarrhea went on for AGES!!  I got so sick of washing lol!  He definetly slept alot more, I tried giving him lots of extra water and cereals to eat to help.  Hope your little man gets over it soon!

Just to add, I would give him Pamol if you think he is really miserable!!

It sucks when they have that cos they end up with nappy rash 9 times out of 10 as well which is even worse!. I second the advice to give plenty of water if you can even iceblocks - i know he's only 8 months but am sure he would think maybe a lemonade iceblock would be oh so fun, lol.. and well - you're cleaning up messes anyway what's one more when it's giving him a bit of energy?

Be careful with giving Pamol though. The doctor isn't just saying it. Pamol only works to bring down fevers and releive pain. So if he hasn't got a fever and he isn't in pain then no i wouldn't give it. If you think he's really having some tummy discomfort with the diarrhoea - which is probably likely, then that's fine - give him some.

It's kinda painted as the magic medicine - a bit like the ibuprofen is now too, but there are only certain things they work on in the body, I do know that it can make them drowsy and might make him sleep better but it really shouldn't be given for that.

It's kinda scary really, pamol/paracetamol/panadol.. is one of the most widely used readily available medicines.. but can be dangerous if used when not needed or too much is given - there's only so much the liver can process.

good luck and i hope that your bubs gets well soon. it sucks having sick kids.

Well he's certainly not sleeping for long today, he woke before from another 45 minutes nap and woke up really grumpy again and nothing you do pleases him so I have put him back to bed and he's crying his eyes out a bit like I feel like doing right now. He's not happy when he's up I'm stuffed if I know what to do!!!

Think I'm having a bad day!!

Well I ended getting him back up again and man talk about full on crying for about half an hour and man can he throw a paddy - didn't want mum, didn't want his toys and didn't want anything that he isn't usually allowed liked the cellphone and remote controls. Gave him his lunch and now he is playing on the floor a little more happier but time will tell. Had better get back to him can hear the grizzling starting again.

Oh Hun...I just went thru this couple of weeks ago when my bubba was going thru the same thing. the only Diff was that Zaara had a fever and pamol did help that. But she was grumpy as...and nothing we did helped. She did sleep allot in between for small periods of time but only in my arms...so needless to say I didnt get much sleep!! It will get better soon I promise.

I know its hard but all you can do is hold them and cuddle them......I know exactly how you feel because by day three I was sitting there crying my eyes out!!

I was lucky that my Aunt came in every day to help me with her...she carried her around for an hour and then it was my turn. Can you get some one to come in and lend you a hand? It does help and gives you a break!!

Poor Bubba and Mum!! Hope he gets better soon ...

Okay down for another sleep, I wonder how long this one will be. Don't know if this is anything to go by from the lack of sleep he has had today but I just went to tuck him back in and he had his arm out of the wrap and this was the case the other sleep before that. I did think though he might have done that after he woke up because I didn't go in straight away. I might just have to keep an eye out for that and if that is the case he will eventually get used to having his arms out and bye bye wrap.

A sleep until 3.30pm would be good that way we can at least get through the night, somehow I think 4 sleeps would be out of the question for him.

Big hugs! I had months of constant diarrohea with Maya when she was 7-10 mths old and it gets so exhausting (not to mention all the extra washing!). How are you going with the Plasmalyte? I couldn't get Maya to drink it at all.

I'm giving it to him through a droplet syringe thing, more seems to be staying down than coming up so that's a bonus. Have been giving him water too which he will drink from a bottle (gosh this bottle thing came at the right time I can tell you).

I second exhausting - roll on 5pm when DH finishes work.

Well my boy slept until just before 4pm - what a good little chappie and in such a better mood. Now here's hoping its a better night sleep although that could depend on his little tummy.

We have certainly had a better day and we went 4 1/2 hours without a messy nappy - now that has to be a record (for during the day anyway, he seems to put things on hold during the night!!). He was still a little harder to settle in for the night last night but certainly better than the previous nights. Fingers crossed things are improving.
