Topic: Not smiling - should I be worried? Posted: 26 September 2009 at 9:39am |
My 3 month old DD barely smiles - occasionally she does at her doll, but only faintly. I keep seeing other 3-4 month old babies who grin away and wonder if I should be concerned. She's tracking along in every other way, though. I would just love some smiles!

Maybe she is just not easy to please
Elias smiles alot .. but then again, he is a pretty happy baby. Isabelle was more stingy with her smiles and basically the only way she would is if we tickled her (so not a "real" smile).
She outgrew it .. although can still put on a huge pout if the world isnt exactly as she deems fit

My DD was also quite stingy with the smiles until about 4 - 5 months old. Now at aged 1 she smiles and grins at everyone.
I wouldn't worry about it too much - she will get there!

They are sooooo fussy - Although he smiles plenty, Leonard wont laugh much for anyone - even when I tell him the one about the horse walking into a bar......

Dani was the same, had to work really really hard for a tiny smile, i think she just used to give us a smile to get us out of her face!! She is very smiley now.
Does she watch you move around a room or follow a slow moving toy? You did say she smiles at her doll so I think she must actually see, so just a matter of time until she smiles more often

C was practically born smiling, thought she was high most the time , Ty on the other hand is a lot more serious, he smiles occasionally , but nowhere near as much as sister , its just different personalities

MrsH: Why the long face?
Muz: Yep, she watches us a lot and stares at toys. I even caught her watching the rugby today, so I think her vision is fine.

Alyssa wasn't much of a smiler early on.. and when we did try and get smiles it seemed like a lot of hard work!! I guess some kids don't see the point in following the crowd haha
Btw, she's a "normal" smiley 3+ year old now :) Her sister is the total opposite. All smiles, all the time :)
