Topic: Now Im really grumpy!Grrr Panelbeaters!     Posted: 24 October 2006 at 5:12pm |

Sorry guys but I have to rant!!

My car has been in for panelbeating because some idiot hit me while parked (and of course never left details nor were there witnesses).
We get the call today to pick up the car so B goes off to get it. When he gets there he's told that acutally they want to hang onto it overnight to be sure some moulding has dried (thanks for the wasted trip guys!!).
Then we find out we're being charged for the sodding courtesy car!!! Ok it may only be $30 but I was never told about it when I asked for and arranged the couresty vehicle. The panelbeaters says the insurance company should have told us about the charge but I fail to see it's the insurance company's fault!!!
I am so mad about this and will be trying my level best to not pay any more than the excess!

that sucks Paws, and the panelbeater is lieing that the insurance company should have told you (unless you too it to the collision management centre...). If they supplied it, they should have told you the cost involved.

Unfortunately it is becoming more common for panelbeaters to charge for a car though as they have found by charging a small amount the car comes back in a better condition.

I say fight with them! (perhaps that is my pregnancy grumpiness coming out)

Believe me, I will be having a few choice words with them (out of ear shot of Maddie - we don't want her picking up any bad language!! ).
And no we took it straight to the panelbeaters not the collision management centre so absolutely they should have told me about the charge. Honestly I know it's only $30 but if I'd known I would have looked at going somewhere that didn't charge.

The whole implication of the word 'courtesy' when used in conjuction with 'car' is that it is a free service provided by the company to encourage you to use them so that you are not disadvantaged or inconvenienced while your vehicle gets repaired. That's my understanding anyway... I've never heard of being charged for a courtesy car, how odd!

Yer we called the insurance company and they said they dont cover courtesy cars that are actually rental cars.

Thats what happened to us they got in a rental car. And that might be whats happened for you... ask about it if i were you! And if they didnt tell you it was a rental i would have a go at them.

ring the isnurance company Gen if you claimed for it, that is not acceptable for them to do such shoddy work. I will look up stuff in the fair insurance code for you too, see if there is some stuff there for claim handling (can't remember off the top of my head)

Hmm .. courtesy car .. surely (as Lulu has already said too) that implies it's a courtesy, not something that you should have to pay for?!! How rude!

 Hope you get it sorted.

I think it more means that as a courtesy they will supply you with a car, but there may be a charge involved. Remebering they don't have to do it at all!

Well they have new mouldings approved and they will be fitted while we wait on Friday.

As for the charge I'm going to write a complaint letter...at the very least I should have been told about it when I asked for and arranged the loan car. Hopefully we can get the charge waived as the sodding receptionist obviously didn't do her job properly in advising us!

If they are a MTA member write to them as well, the work they did sounds terrible given the moulding came off less than 24 hours later.

And if the insurance company suggested you go there, let them know what terrible service you received, many have complaints resolution gifts that they send out which if you are vocal you may get one
