Looks like I missed out on the good sleep last night - Bethany did everything I didn't think she'd do, lol. Went down at 9:45pm then woke at 2am (very early for her), I got her up at 2:20am, took till 3:30am to settle her (a long time for her) then she only slept till 6am. Went back down straight after a feed that time, only to wake at 7:30am for another one... I was so tired I pulled her into bed with me, then after feeding her one side that was when I realised she was lying in a puddle, eek!!! She did sleep from 8:30ish and doze on me for a while before she woke wanting a feed at around 11am once I got to a cafe to meet some of the Sept mums.
Funny story (it seems to be our day for them!):
After I left the cafe I managed to pick up some nappies at nappies for less, then pick up some groceries. I put her in the trolley in her carseat (wide awake) and she was mostly happy though once we got to the checkout she was not too impressed... I got her out... only to realise that her carseat was wet, and sure enough so was she... and it was yellowy in colour
Grabbed a muslin cloth from my handbag to cover her backside while I held her... thank goodness for kind people in checkout lines who offer to help put groceries up on the register! Sat her back in the carseat ( ) on the muslin cloth ( ) and I'm sure we got EVERY red light on the way home! Poor girl was quite distressed, and no wonder - when I finally managed to change her (after frantically getting the groceries out of the car and throwing the meat into the fridge) she had poo everywhere!!! Lol, she's on a roll today, hehe.
And in terms of growth spurts... it's prob a good thing I haven't kept track of when and how long she's fed for today, cuz I'm pretty convinced that's what's been going on! (Although she did snatch one or two longer stretches of sleep this morning, mostly while we were at the cafe).
Sorry for the long post!

PS Amber - yesterday for the first time I noticed that Bethany now has quite long cute eyelashes, so maybe Jody's will grow and end up being curly like your DH's?
PPS for anyone who is interested in reading a GOOD book about babies and settling... try 'Sleeping like a Baby' by Pinky McKay. I just borrowed it from the library and am part way through it - it makes so much sense!!! Plus it's easy to read I definitely recommend it!

Funny story Kmarie!!
I agree it is hard to catch up on everything. . . I always do but then forget what to comment on
So funny about different babies and nappies. Ash grew out of Huggies newborn weeks ago, and Treasures are fantastic. With Kaspar it was the other way round. Weird.
Oh yea, I live in Silverdale which is half an hour from Albany. . . I don't know when we are going to Star Ship again as they haven't gotten back to me . . might not need to till next month.
Is Takapuna too far away for everyone? If it is just let me know where, Mondays and Fridays we have the nurse in the morning and Wednesday I have a new coffee group (yay )
Mad how bubs routines change huh. . . just when you think you have it down, woop something happens.haha.
Cool your boys want hula hoops Sonya!! I like outdoory presents. . . but I have finally given into a game console after 6 and half years with dh wanting one.haha. So we are getting K a wii and wii sport. The wii fit is sooooooo fun too!!

Yay for bases indeed! Although I have not been able to lift the seat with Jody in/out of the car yet, but it looks easy for others doing it for me lol
Are hoola hoops coming back in???? That's glorious news. And yay for outdoorsy pressies.
Jody has been really off all day and basically didn't stop crying/grizzling since 4pm ish. She's finally asleep now.
Anyway, she kept telling me she was hungry but would pull off my boob as soon as I had a let down. I thought maybe it's too much for her? So I gave expressing a go and managed to get 125ml and still had plenty to go I was so excited since MW told me not to expect more than 10ml the first few goes.
So DH fed her the bottle which took less than 10mins, she had a nice messy poo, then drained my other boob! Really! I thought their tummies were tiny!
Kristy, you have given me hope for Jody's lashes lol
Ew, poo explosions. Had my first 'poo everywhere' situation this arvo, luckily at home though. Just waiting for my public poo display...

Hi all
Been very busy around here! Jackson was perfect yesterday, was so happy and slept get this a 3.5hr stint! lol for us that was a big sleep, anyways after the gym he was a nightmare! Yesterday afternoon and night he was constantly hungry and just very unhappy :( The plunket nurse thinks its related to my exercise as it only seems to happen on the days I am at the gym. Has anyone else had experiences with exercising and bfing?? She wants me to have more fat in my diet but I am like, I need to lose weight if I have more fat then whats the point of exercising???
Then I got blasted by the lady in the Bendon shop, i went in there to get a sports bra as running in a maternity bra was no fun! She started blasting me saying with such a young baby I shouldnt be running blah blah! Come on, I was real fit before I had him, surely going back to my old routine is not a bad thing??
Anyways if anyone has suggestions about what to do about unsettled baby post exercise I would love to hear!
As with nappies I think its quite funny, last time around McKenzie lived in Treasures as those seemed the best, I tried Huggies and hated them. This time around Huggies are miles better! Dont know if its the difference between boy and girl?
I am trying to keep him in his snazzipants during the day and then put him in disposables at night or when we are out and about and I wont be able to change him easily.
I am finding the snazipants to be fab, we have not had any leaks or issues unlike with disposables.
Jackson was weighed at Plunket on Wed, he is now 8lb5oz or 3.7kgs?
He is such a short ass! lol, not even on the charts yet!
Gorgeous photos, loving the smiles! Cant wait until Jackson smiles :( He is 8wks today and I will prob still have two or three weeks to wait for a smile, seems a little unfair! Not a lot of gratification for all the work that goes in, I know I shouldnt complain but at the moment he is always upset if he is awake, he either wants feeding, changing or sleep, no playtime or smiles but I know it will come.
Think I am just feeling the lack of sleep!
Oh someone said that their older child was harder work than the baby- too true! Even with a 6yr old!
McKenzie has been so needy and frustrating lately, wants reassurance and attention all day long, if Jackson cries she cries, if he has a cold then she has one (a made up one) she cant stand it if he gets my attention- very annoying!!!
Anyways enough of my winging, have a great day!

Sarah I hate to tell you but that is a good night for us!!!,
There is no way we could do a dream feed cause J will not burp if he's asleep no matter how hard I try, so I am looking forward to the day when he can sort his own gas out.
I'm with you on the struggling to get out poos! J pretty much has it every night, its what mainly wakes him up. When she does go is it nice and loose? or a bit more formed? I find that colimed helps them to relax, and then he can get it out cause he's not tense. Also my MW said to give them a hot bath cause it helps them to relax and get it out. Sorry can't be more helpful, I am willing to try anything cause he just screams with pain sometimes

tj why the heck was she hassling you about running when your bubs was so young??? I don't get it? Good on you by the way!!!!! Never heard of the unsettled thing afterwards sorry, can't help you there. Dont think its boys and girls different, just different babies I reckon coz I have 2 boys and it's the same!!
When Ash was on Gaviscone he was really badly constipated, I found a colic massage was awesome. The legs up and tummy massage one. . . . Maybe look it up? I would but just heading out for his immunisations
Massage after a nice shower with dh worked wonders! Also settled him down when he was extra grumpy or windy too!
Been reading up on Pamol, a lot of people say not to give it before shots as it doesn't really help and can mask bad side effects that need to be seen???
Only give it afterwards if needed. I always thought to use it as a precautionary thing. . oh well.
Haha about the bibs Sonya! I got loads too and haven't used any. I thought all babies spewed evrywhere 24/7 like K lol. At least Ash swallows his back! aww but thats extra sore so i feel bad saying that!!! hehe.

TJ, I thought once bub was 6 weeks old you're allowed to claim your own body back? My mw does keep reminding me that I need to eat 3x as much calaries when breastfeeding, it's not easy though! Although the weight is coming off and I'm SO not exercising at the moment.
Jody is really having a growth spurt now, she's just constantly hungry and grizzly, even woke up at 3:20am for a feed which she hasn't done for a few days. She's not sleeping so well, like she'll close her eyes for a few mins then wriggle and grizzle for a few mins. Must be tired and hungry?
Sonya, I never had a moonhopper, maybe I can get one for xmas since they're cool again lol. I was tempted to get one and use it to get everywhere on when Jody wouldn't come out!
Katie, I've heard that about Pamel too, it can mask reactions to the vacs if it's given before.
OK, really should get organised. Got the hip check today and got stuff to get from town, visit mum and meet up with a friend, all with an unsettled bubba...

Hi everyone,
Just thought I would join you all if thats ok. Jacob was supposed to be an of of September baby, but was 9 days late so his birthday is 9 Oct. He has a big brother, Benjamin, who is 2 years 5 months old. We are in Tauranga.
I have just skim read the last 10 or so pages. Jacob has his 6 week appt today, and immunisations. A tip my nurse gave me with Benjamin is to put Bonjela on their thigh just before they stick the needle in, it kind of numbs the site a little. And if you are breastfeeding, have baby latched on while they do it too, that way they have comfort immediately after and the crying wont last very long. It worked with Benjamin so I will be trying them both again today. And yeah, pamol for after, not before, and only if they need it. Benjamin was fine and never needed it, just had a tender spot on his legs that I had to be careful how I held him for a day or so.
Well I hope to be able to get on here on a regular basis and get to know you guys. It is nice to have a support network like this.
Tori

welcome tori, Jacob & Benjamin! sounds like you haev a very similar age gap to a couple of us. My name is Chonny (Chontelle) & David will be 6weeks on tuesday. His big brother Vincent is two years 4mths. I too used the lacthing bubs on before jabs last time & it worked really well when V was really little. plan on doing that next week too. Hadn't heard bout the bonjela thing but sounds liek a fab idea!
Ladies, i join you all on the unsettled bubba. David squirms heaps the past two days in the late arvo & evening. Hasn't been sleeping as well at night either :( which sucks coz V was up three times last night too, which is NOT like him...... He hasn't done a poo since Wednesday evening. ANy tips? the colimed helps relax him with the pain but he still hasn't poo'd?
Last night he slept from 10.30 till 3.00am then back down 3.45am & up again at 6am! didnt change his nappy then so he was back down again within half an hour. woke again at 8am tho. i think it's his yucky tummy :(
Off to see the LC today so hopefully will get him off the shields! i would have the other day as i feel comfy trying it, but didn't wanna waste the lc's time & wanna discuss some other things with her too.... wanna investigate if he got a tongue tie or not also wanna ask about the high palate thing. i wanna know why this happened again!
Katie, i probably couldn't do takapnua i'm sorry. unfortunately you and & i are in a similar situation. Takapuna is a decent length from you but central is ages away yet for me it''s the other way round...... hmmmmm....... we shall have to work something out tho! so wanna meet cute lil Ash! Love the pic by the way!

Hi Tori, great to have you join us! I was also due Sept but Bethany arrived 3 days late on 2 Oct. Your lil man is a cutie! Bethany went for her 6wk jabs on Tuesday and I couldn't believe how hard she cried Will remember your tips for next time!
Amber - Bethany occasionally has nights like that, and I've learned that it's usually wind. When she's like that, often I'll put her on my shoulder to burp her and she'll fall asleep - only to wake again if I move her! I just give her lots of snuggles and keep patting/rubbing her back and generally the wind goes in the end. We're blessed that she's a happy baby in that sense.
PS feel free to send all those bibs our way... we're forever running out, lol!
