Topic: Oooo teachers Posted: 15 December 2007 at 9:55pm |
Some of this woman's remarks must be a bit on the nose!! From what I've seen of teachers they are most certainly not on "really cruisy office hours". And who is happy to pay $300 (say) on uniform but not a further $300 for jackets...? Weird!

My SIL is a teacher and she certainly does not have cruisy office hours, perhaps she should see how much work they have to take home with them to do. And I know that my SIL never has the school holidays "off" as she is planning for the next term for a lot of that time.
What the hell is wrong with getting a second hand raincoat?

i think I won't take any opinion from someone not smart enough to send her own kids to school. What a load of crap!

I don't want to get the wrong end of the stick here, but not providing your child with a raincoat is borderline abuse. Isn't there a bit where as a parent your supposed to clothe your children??
Sorry but the mother is an idiot. Bring back truancy officers

Oh man, my IL's would go nuts at this! They're both teachers, as are many of my aunts/uncles/cousins, and I know how hard they work and that they are not often home before 6pm. The woman sounds like and idiot, her poor kids.

How stupid!!!
My parents never got me the "regulation raincoat" because it cost too much and she told the school that she wasn't going to buy it and told them I would wear a plain black jacket instead. There are always solutions out there like that.
She just doesn't like the school system.

yep exactly we had the same - we couldn't afford the "regulation" raincoat either (what's with expecting people to pay $100 for a jacket cos it makes you school look good.. i mean come on) so i wore another one and took it off at the school gates.

** Asked what she thought of the state schooling system, she replied: "The education system sucks. There is no education. And the teachers - what other job gives you 12 weeks' paid annual leave a year and really cruisy office hours?" **
Oh my goodness, this type of comment REALLY gets me fired up!! Teachers work dam hard, and take home work on evenings and weekends. And at least half of the holidays are spent planning. Yeah it is great we get holidays, we need them to recover from how hard we work during the term
And totally agree - get them a cheap raincoat and tell the school that's all you can afford, and that they either wear that or don't come to school. I'm sure they'd let it pass... crazy.
