Well, we are back, she says, rather obviously....
Fantastic time, didn't come back tanned, though, as we were very good with our sunscreen, having fair and ginger complexions... The shower on the last night was fab, washing away what felt like layers and layers of sunscreen, salt and sand and not having to re apply it!
Kids travelled very well. Air NZ was super duper on the way out - although our flight didn't leave nz till 9pm - was meant to leave at 5pm. We managed to get some spare seats so we could spread out with the children. and the lovely flight attendant man who looked after us gave us some baby food and a nappy for charlotte, the baby food to get her chewing on take off. Kids slept the whole way. getting off the plane at midnite into 25 degree heat was something else, though, gosh we were all almost dead from the heat and no air con! Fiji airport is very, um, basic. Anyhow, they pretty much just stamped our passports and waved us through, so along with our duty free booze and 25 kg of cocaine we were off... jokes about the cocaine, but they didn't even look at our bags at all!!!!
Hotels room was pretty basic as well, but it was a very beautiful setting, where we stayed the first nite (Raffles).
Onto a boat after a 25 min bus ride therough downtown Nadi for Denarau, that was an eyeopener. Very poor, then you get to Denarau and its basically a gated community.
50min boat ride, fantastic scenery, especially the small blonde boy spewing all over me.
Arrive at Plantation Island greeted by the staff ont he warf singing for us etc, we felt like movie stars. had a bit of a tear in my eye...or maybe it was the sand?
Fantastic accomodation, and a small "private" beach area. Heaps to do.
Booked a babysitter to take the kids to kids club in the mornings, they can go on their own if they are over 4. Only costs $3 an hour per room- so even if you have 7 kids the baby sitter is only $3 an hour. Felt a bit stink about that, so I always gave her a bit more. WE had the same lovely lady the whole time and it free up our mornings to do stuff. They loved kids club they did heaps of cool stuff, tresure hunts, made hats, coconut shell boats, made tee shirts fed the fish etc.
WE did lots of snorkelling, Rod dived, I parasailed twice, we did a wee canoe over to musket cove, I went over to the shell village,I got a massage, we swam lots and I didn't do alot of sitting round sunbathing there was too much to see and do, but we always met up in the bar at 11ish if we had done our own thing that morning for cocktails...
Lots of walking and exploring, so lots of exersize to wear off all that food.
Fantasic time, loved it, great for kids.
Trip home, great staff on Air NZ, but full flight so I had a sqirmer on my knee - although she fell asleep and I bribed Jake with lollies to let her share his seat while he watched the movie...
No food for her this time, though, and no kids packs eiher ? maybe they are a thing of the past now. Kids were great anyhow. I had made up a bag each with toys/games/drawing stuff/books etc.
The only thing that guts me is we left a bad of some dutyfree clothes we got for nathan and Jake in the overhead lockers (Rod forgot we had them) and despite calling air nz every day, they haven't turned up.. VERY gutted about that.
And speaking of duty free.... I love christian dior perfume, so i went a bit mad in aucks on the way home....
