Topic: Outdoor play stuff for littlies Posted: 16 November 2006 at 7:58pm |
We are thinking about getting Hannah something for outdoors for Xmas. We'd quite like to get a big swing/slide thing. My mum reckons she wil be a bit young for it know, but she loves going on the swings and slide at the park, and its 10 months until her birthday so we want to get something to grow into, not just for now...
So I guess what I'm asking is, do you think she'll be too young for it before her birthday? And anyone know of any good ones and how much?

I got Jake one of those little tykes swings when he was about 8 months old, and he still loves it. We had it attatched to the verandah so he could play in it if it was wet. now we have it on one of those swing slide sets, and he still loves it, as well as playing ont he other things as well. I don't think she is too young at all, it is a great idea.

KMart in Palmy have them on special at the moment the big ones with the swings and then you buy the slide to go with it.

yeah i was gonna say that.. we are kinda bumbed cos we couldn't find and good ones like that a while ago. We ended up getting them separate. Warehouse has ones that are a single swing with frame, and it has a normal swing attachment but also comes with a baby swing like the fisher price ones that you can change it over to so it will go well for both our girls. I think they were $70
We also got a slide from there for $70, again, single, with a plastic slide part that most importantly, has edges so they can't fall over the edge too easily.. which i thought was great cos the steel ones always look like you'll fall off them or cut yourself on the edge of them.
can i also say.. if you are looking for some good value outdoory stuff.. those rocking horse elephants are great from bunnings.. $35.. they can seat up to 3 kids, or just one, and i had it inside for most of winter.

Be careful with the swings. Mum was looking at getting one for Jake. We went to toyworld to have a look and Jake got on. Although it was for up to 3, his feet were dragging and it really wasn't any good for him
Mum got Jake a Little tikes one. It is shaped like an elephant - and was $250 at toyworld (after xmas went to $150 which annoyed Mum no end). Jake was one when he got it ad needed a hand to climb up, but adored it. At two he still uses it everyday. Taine is now trying to climb UP the slide (contrary child)
Jake and Taine also have a fisher-price swing that is attached to a walnut tree we have out the back. Both boys love that too. I've seen them attached to the bigger swing sets for the younger child. Mum got ours for $30 from trademe,

actually mine is a fisher price, I was telling lies, obviously, and it is now attatched to the swing set. Jake loves it, even the dog has had a go. Got it for $40 off trade me almost new, too.

The Little Tykes slide things are perfect for kidlets Hannah's age.. W.House have them. Jennz had one at her place when she was in NZ and the kidlets all LOVED it. (Well, they did when any other one of them was trying to use it. May have been a competition thing!)
Or those other swing/slide sets... (the green bars and yellow seats) the neighbours have one and they also use it heeeeaps. (the younger ones use the swing where two people hop on - Hannah will just have to learn to hang on fast ) We also had one as kids and lurved it.
Or you could get her some sea shell thingys and have a sandpit in one side and a paddling pool in the other?/ That's what I got Han for her 1st bday and they are still going strong!

Just been looking on TM, only bugger is the freight. Will definitely go have a look at KMart on the weekend - thanks! Hannah has one of those Fisher Price ones at mums which she adores. We may end up making a steel frame and buying a couple of swings off TM and buying a seperate slide, but will have a look at kmart and warehouse first.

my mum brought lissy the hills set and its brilliant. Jayde was using it before she was 12 months (there are pictures here of her a little over that going down the slide by herself) I love the hills set. comes with a baby swing as well as big kids swings.

We had a swing set when i was one...now when i was two, me and my friend Takarae used to sit on the swing that had two seats and rock and rock, until the thing tipped - look for ones that you can secure into the ground.
