Topic: Packed lunch for the pregnant lady... Posted: 23 April 2009 at 9:24am |
I know there are a few of us who are working whilst pregnant. I usually take my own lunch, or if I run out of time buy a ham and salad sandwich. Clearly thats now a no-go, as are most of the lunches I've been taking up until now. Since I got my BFP I've been eating a lot of apples, but thats starting to get tired, plus apples alone aren't a balanced diet!
So, wise ones, what are some good ideas for packed lunches when you are pregnant? Thanks

Congrats on your BFP!
Do you have access to a kitchen with microwave and/or boiling water? I had lots of cuppa soups and bread rolls when I was preggy, plus things like those uncle bens rice sachets, and macaroni cheese mmmmmm (can you tell I craved carbs).
I snacked on crackers spread with avocado (avocadoes are really cheap at the mo as well), apples, and lots of junk I shouldn't have Sometimes I just bought a pie!
When I felt motivated I made myself a couple of batches of muffins (usually one sweet, one savoury) and froze them, taking out one or two a day, I liked to zap them in the microwave before eating (LMK if you want any muffin recipes).

Actually I had a lot of dry salada crackers as well, for a while there I lived on them and gingernuts cos they were all I could keep down! I would sometimes have cottage cheese with cucumber or tomato on my salada, it's ok if it's freshly opened.

Nuts are great for a munch, any fresh fruit, soup can be taken in a thermos, muesli bars or similar, lots of water, I kinda craved beef and chilli pies while I was pregnant so I'd buy one of those a week, um, crackers and cheese, like weegee said avacado is a great option. Vege (carrot, celery, etc)sticks with peanut butter or cheese spread or even marmite for dipping if you don't like them plain...

rice risotto? then you can put all kinds of veges in it, and don't even have to have meat. definately soup! maybe lots of containers of snacks of different kinds so if you don't feel like eating something at the time you don't have to.

I've really struggled which has meant a lot of bad food like hot chips! But I can recommend soup - great if you make a big pot at the weekend and it will last the whole week. Also tinned stuff like spaghetti, baked beans. Or leftovers?

I thought I might add to this and see if anyone has any ideas. The hospital OB has demanded I have no (or not many) carbs, so:
Packed lunch for the pregnant lady, with no carbs (the really obvious pasta/bread/rice/potatoes etc).
So far for ideas I have vege sticks, fruit, homemade soup and packet soup.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
