Argh I have just spent ages reading through all the stupid info on the net and I am so annoyed.
I don't work regular hours and so it appears i"m only entiled to Parental Tax credit of the $150 a week insteaed of the parental leave. If I was having baby in November then I would likely be entitiled to the Parental leave payments.
So PTC is only 8 weeks payments of $150 and PLP is 14 weeks of payments? Do you wait for after bubs to be born to apply for PTC?
Seems like such an unfair system.

When you say you aren't working regular hours are you doing at least 10 a week?? And have you been working for at least 6 months??

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'd get the ball rolling now, when I had my first and was working I filled out the forms and had it all set ready so I simply needed to call them and let them know the baby had come and payments started. Also, they're really good at helping make sure you get what you can i.e if there's anything else you may be entitled to.

Maybe start with a phone call to the ird and see where they point you.

BUMPITY BUMP!!!

Just wondering......I know I am not entitled to the 14 weeks pay as I have not been working the last financial year...BUT someone mentioned we could be entitled to the PARENTAL TAX CREDIT?????? I dont really understand it even after reading the BLURB how that exactly works....Does anyone else??

Also if we are getting the Working for Families thing would we still qualify (if we did) for that PTC????

If you earn under (I think) $68000 you can get the PTC, how much you get depends on how much you earn. And yes you can get it if you haven't been working and get WFF, they'll just add it onto your payments for the first 8 weeks or you can get it in a lump sum too.
