You partially fill it with little prizes, like (wrapped) lollies and little $2 shop treats, that sort of thing. Then, when it breaks its like a mad lolly scramble!
One a friend did for her daughter had a small labelled present inside for each guest - a necklace and bracelet set for each girl, and a whistle and squeezy torch for each boy.

could do pin the nappy on the baby.... or maybe pin the dummy!!? for my baby shower we had a life sized drawing of a preggy mummy and you had to pin a picture of a fetus inside a womb onto her. It's amazing where some people think babies come from!!! lol

ok, can now say - pinatas are fun but do not overfill - we found that hey are made with very little space inside, the hole to fill on the animal ones is just by their tail and it only fills their belly part, the rest stays hollow so we made a small hole in the top of the head, chucked HEAPS more stuff in, and the papery stuff covered it back over.
That was good in theory, except it was so full that it wouldn't burst open - i ended up going up after each kid had already had 2 turns of whacking heaps.. and just ripped it open.
This was all that was left.. it's not the whole pic but a little girl grabbed the head and stuck it in the trike tray and was cycling round with it, was pretty funny.

depends on the age and number of kids.
for little ones i just had a little something under each layer - those party blowouts are great for that, nice and cheap and sparkly.
For the older kids, since Paris's one this year had a heap of kids i didn't do instructions for hers either as it took long enough to have one layer for each kid.. in future have learnt to have 2 smaller ones going at once that way each kid gets something but it doesn't take forever.
some instructions could be:
making sounds of animals/actions of animals
make a funny face
counting to 5, 10 depending on age could go higher, count back from 10 or whatever
abc
sing a song
hhm there's a heap but you have to make sure the kid isn't gonna end up getting all embarased so something little and achieveable is good - taking into account the various abailities that fall within age groups too.

bumping this up again as Ella is having a birthday in a few months!
Does anyone know where to get Maisy themed things? I will make the invitations and the cake myself, but I want stickers, little things for the loot bags etc? Plates maybe?

um maisy, um, will have a look on some sites and get back to you.. dunno if i have seen maisy ones before. if all else fails you can always get the colours of orange and white and photocopy lots of pics of maisy and colour them and put them places.. will still be maisy without the plates etc. i had to do that for paris's 1st birthday cos hers was miffy. but will have a look-see for you.
