 Topic: Passport photos for baby - how do I DIY??

I'm hoping someone has some GREAT tips for getting a successful photo of bubs that the DIA will actually accept. DS is just over a week old but he's TINY and it's been impossible so far to a)get him looking straight at the camera or b)keep his eyes open for longer than 5 seconds, let alone both at the same time and at the right distance!
Help please!

What about waiting till he is awake then someone else flashing a torch on and off (not too bright or close) and having the camera right next to the torch when it catches his attention??

I'm not sure if what I'm going to suggest is available to you in Singapore but:
One of my friends got a very good photo of her son using something called a Happi Insert which is used to keep the baby's head from flopping forward in the capsule/carseat. (it's the blue H shaped thing in the picture)
If you can find or make up a makeshift version of this then you should be able to get him looking directly at the camera.

The best way for timy babies is to put a blanket (pale blue is the best colour) on the floor and pop your wee boy on it. Then stand over him to take the photo. This means that you do not have to try and prop him up - that never works!
use a digital camera but do not use the digital zoom, just regular zoom and take lots and cut them down when printed.
They do have a bit of leeway with little babies but not much. Oh and may be have some stand next to you with a squeeky toy to try and get Callum's attention. 
eta: they will not accept the photos if you can see the parent or a car seat

I don't envy you, I had the gremlins ones done when they were 6 weeks and Chiara's when she was about 8 weeks and it was a mission!
Jaycee has the right idea tho, that's the way they do it when you go into the Kodak store to have them done.
They never used to be so anal, Maya's baby passport photo was one of the ones we had taken in hospital when she was only a few days old but they'd never accept that now.

We went to the local Chemist to have Graeson's done. They had a pillow that they put on the floor covered by a white sheet to lay him on.

Forgot to add that you basically just need to have lots of patience, you may have to go back more than once to get the picture taken. We went twice, we held a toy above the camera for him to look at as well.

I would recommend going to a passport photo chop and getting it done. Its heaps quicker and easier than doing it at home and then you know its going to be accepted and it less time waiting around for the passport. Just my opinion though!
We had DS done at about 5 weeks and it was fine. We tried doing our own but there are so many rules that I gave up in the end.
You need both ears, eyes open, mouth shut...its fricken impossible!

Argh, sounds like fun
If we were home there's no WAY I'd attempt it at this age but we need to apply for NZ citizenship and a passport so he can stay in Singapore Such a long and drawn out process. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Thanks for the tips though .. will let you know how I get on .. perhaps you all can vote on which pic to use!

ooh yeah sorry I should have said that you have to put a sheet over the insert and capsule (pref white) so you can't see it and just have a white background.
The advantage of this method is you are more likely to get them looking straight ahead plus get them with their mouths closed.

No, you're not allowed a white background - has to be a plain light coloured background, but not white.

That is right Nic01 - DO NOT USE WHITE - they will send them back. Light blue is the best colour.
