We will start a fund for each child when we are financially able to, with the hope of having today's equivalent of 10-20k (inflation-adjusted). We are not going to tell our kids as I see too many of my friends that had cushy rides their whole lives doing nothing, whereas we worked for everything we have. My parents help now that they are able to.
So if our kids want to go to uni, it could be for that, or a wedding, house deposit etc. But it won't be a typical trust fund where they turn a certain age and can go on a big spending spree, it'll be under our names so we have to approve what the money is spent on.
