oh my goodness I think I just got AF! Is that normal to get it so soon? It's been 9 days since D&C. I wasn't sure when to expect it but got the impression it would be ages away. I would really appreciate advice if this is normal as if it's other bleeding might need to get checked out.

After my first mc I had 18 days from the start of bleeding (so day of D&C in your case) to start of first af, hope this is a proper af for you as its a good sign your body has settled back into normal hormonal patterns already

Hey Bobsta, after my m/c on 6 July 07 I got my first AF back on the 7th August 07, I started spotting about the 1st August and then it turned into my full on period by the 7th.

I had a fews days break and then some more bleeding... So it could still be post D&C bleeding (especially if you have had special cuddles or exercised more than normal)....

Keep an eye on it, it does seem awfully quick for your hormones to have settled and your HCG to be gone. Did your GP or MW give you a form to check your bloods at all?

I hope it is AF though chicken, that would be just awesome!

I'm still waiting for mine and its been 8 weeks since my D&C. F*** it. I had a smidge of spotting about 4.5 weeks after D&C which lasted about 3 days (so light it wasn't worth mentioning) so guessing that was AF. Hopefully it turns up next week - we want to start trying again next month!

Hi Bobsta,

I hate to say it but would definitely not be AF. I had some bleeding for a few days 14 days post MC and thought the same but my OB said definitely not AF....you need at least 3-4 weeks post MC to get AF. He talked me through the process etc (which confirms it's not AF) but I won't write it all out here...too much to explain.

I wouldn't worry though....like I said to you on another thread, MC does play havoc with your hormones and *some times* it's common to not actually ovulate for 2-3 months post MC...but you can still get AF. Just monitor what you're experiencing but I wouldn't be surprised if in 4-6 weeks time you do get proper AF.

Another thing is - when you do get first AF it is likely to be very painful, heavy and a bit yucky to be honest. You'll know when it's arrived...believe me!

Hi Bobsta,

I agree with Smiles I can't see how it could be possible to have a proper af that soon - I would keep an eye on the bleeding and if it gets too heavy you may want to see the Dr... I dunno if you saw my post to you when you were asking about BDing... but when I had my D&C (not from MC) we BDed too soon after and I ended up bleeding very heavily at about 9-10 days post op... (not saying you did BD, just thought I'd mention incase you did )... I do hope it's nothing

Thanks everyone. Well Although I had a reasonable red bleed last night today it's more thick dark brown bleeding, Sorry that sounds kind gross. I can definitely say it isn't AF from that and your advice. I did go for a 1km run on the treadmill last night so that might have been the cause. Mel I have a checkup with my GP in a week or so to get the bloods done to check the HCG is down to zero.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have a D&C so my m/c lasted three weeks (bleeding, cramping, and passing clots). After what was the "final expulsion" I bled for a further month before being put on meds to stop the bleeding- they worked within two days. The day I stopped taking them was the day I started bleeding again, at which point I had had enough. It only lasted a week though, so that was when I consider my first period to have come- about six weeks after the m/c.
