Anyone got one - they look really cool. We are planning on spending quite a bit of time at the beach over the next year or so, and they look perfect for that cos they are small.

Any feedback?

Our friends have one and they love it. I think they seem awesome. They fold up so small and are really light. If I had known about them earlier I would have got one. I love the way they take up less space.

My MIL bought one of these for us to use at her house. It cost a bundle and it's very light, folds up into next to nothing, and is easy to put up.

However, it is not useful for older babies, or even babies who can stand up but are still small. It's not "sturdy" as the frame is basically those lightweight tent-type "sticks", so if your little one stands up and leans on the side, it will tip over (if they put enough weight against it). Also, the mattress that comes with it is super-thin.

If you're going to be in the room when your baby is in it, it's fine. If you want something for them to sleep in, it's really only suitable for younger babies who don't do much moving around save rolling over.

We have one, and it's great. DD is actually sleeping in it now, after our failed attempts to put her in a single bed after taking the cot down!

Pros: It's light, awesome for travelling (actually fits inside our suitcase if we need it to), packs down small in a handy carry case. We can fit the mattress rolled up, the actual cot and some sheets/blankets in the one case and it's still tiny. I like that it has a zip up top so if we are so inclined, we can use it outside like a little tent (good for at the beach if needed) and it keeps mozzies out if you're in a place where you need that. DD has slept in it happily since she was little and is now 18 months old and still finding it great. We haven't had a problem with tipping or anything and she gives it a good work out standing up and holding onto the side and shaking it back and forth when she wants to get out.

Cons: It's a little bit more complicated than the larger portacots to set up - kind of like putting up a tent. But you get good at it. The mattress is quite thin, we still use it when we travel by plane or don't want to take much with us, but if we are going somewhere in the car or using it at in-laws house we have bought a $50 thick foam mattress from Para that fits perfectly. DD now sleeps on either quite happily, but at the start she wasn't too keen on the thin mattress.

I'm so glad we got ours, wouldn't change it for anything. I will keep an eye on DD in hers to see if it is in any danger of tipping, but from what I've seen it's pretty sturdy - the base is wider than the top and all joined together, so they are standing on the material, and the sides are quite high.

Edited to add: just check that you're happy with the amount of space the legs take up - they still occupy a bit of floor space because the leg poles curve outwards, it's not just the space that the canvas takes up. If you're looking for something that is compact in terms of floor area then keep that in mind.

We have one and love it. It has hapily travelled the world with us. iT'S LIGHT AND COMPACT, it's za biot more complicated to put up, but the more you do it the better you get. The mattress is thin, but for the odd night it's no problem, Fay slept in it for 6 weeks when we were in the UK and we just put a thick towel under the matress to pad her out a bit, but Fay will sleep anywhere so she's not a good judge. She would have failed int he Princess and the Pea
Also P&T are great at after sales service. I tripped on it in the dark one night and fell against it, breaking a strut and they replaced it free of charge
I definitely prefer it to the conventional one we were lent before that

Mazzy, do you have the kiwi traveller or T2? I dont think they make the traveller one anymore which looks more like a tent, and it has been replaced by the T2 which looks a bit smaller.

How funny, we just bought one of these yesterday! I read a review on the consumer website which says...

Good points:
Very small when packed. Very light. Easy to move around.

Bad points:
Expensive. Easy to set up and fold away, but due to lots of parts takes a long time. There is a potential foothold created by internal pocket which could cause a child to climb and fall out of the cot - you could cut off the pocket to avoid this hazard. Zipper handle on the insect net is finger entrapment hazard. No wheels.

Maybe the problem with it tipping over was from the earlier model? We looked at the 'hazards' and figured they didn't bother us too much. If Harry gets into climbing, we'll either cut the internal pocket off or have him in a safety sleep.

We just thought this would be a good model cos it is sooo small, and we'll also be able to use it camping/at the beach etc. And I really wanted one that had a mozzie thing cos when we went away at Easter, Harry got his first mozzie bite on his cheek.

Looked at other ones that were between $100 and $140, but were heaps bigger. We got ours for $199 (usually $240 I think?) from baby on the move, but I think we got the last one in stock. You can always see if they're getting more in. The other 'usual' places (winkalots, babyonline) said they're sold out cos they're getting a new model in.

I have one and I love it . We were recommend it by a friend, and also when we found out we would be off to the US for a holiday - I thought it would be ideal, as it packs down so small, and I also don't have to worry about organising one at each location.

I agree with all the other great points stated above. KiwiBaby have them for a good price!

DH did manage to break the legs first time we put it together But they just replaced it for us free of charge. Now its my responsibility to put it up cause he gets frustrated by it! It just takes a bit of practice!

We love ours, Isaac (15 months) climbs on it all the time and it hasn't ever looked like it was going to tip over. It is more time consuming to put up, but it gets easier and quicker with practice :)

Hi Aimee,

Sorry, only just saw this. We have the T2 I'm pretty sure - just looked on the P&T website and the traveller looks different to what we have (legs straight down and close to the sides). The one we have is smaller than the usual port a cot, we've had it in some small rooms, but I do think the curved out legs take up more space.
