Topic: Place to stay for weekend in Wellington? Posted: 28 March 2011 at 11:26am |
I'm thinking of going to Wellington for the weekend so my extended family there can meet DS.
When we were last there we just stayed in a family room at the YHA.
Now we have 2 little ones and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for cheap child-friendly accommodation or if we should go to the YHA again?

Whereabouts in Wellington are you looking to stay?
I know Quest has a whole lot of serviced apartments all around the CBD, but I'm not sure of price...

I'm thinking either in the CBD or suburbs between the CBD and Lowry Bay where the family live.

Hmmm, sorry, I'm a bit useless; I haven't exactly had to go to hotels in Wellington seeing as how I live there. I'm sure you've seen this but might be worth checking out if you haven't already.
I hope someone can help you!

We always get a holiday home now. It usually works out heaps cheaper.
We use holidayhomes.co.nz & holidayhouses.co.nz

try looking at some motels in Petone .. its just over the motorway from CBD and about 10mins drive from Lowry Bay! Or the Angus Inn ... Nothing flash but in the centre of Lower Hutt .. Across from Westfield, Close to transport or ooooo Hutt Park Holiday Park! Its quite nice and tidy for the price has aplayground/ bouncing pillow etc for kiddies .. On bus route and about 5mins if that from Lowry Bay. Thats most likely to the be the most child friendly place!

Thanks all! Hutt Holiday Park looks easiest on the budget and is nice and close to the family so think we'll be booking that!

I LOVE the quest, right in town, but a bit pricey, but yeah, GREAT!
I always stay at comfort and quality on cuba now tho, lol. And I never take my kids, so no help! Sorry! xx

We recently stayed in a holiday home from holidayhouses.co.nz when we were in Welly last month. We couldn't find a 2bed motel room or serviced apartment which turned out to be a blessing in disguise! The place we stayed at was Belmont Country Escape and it was really lovely! Not v central (on the hill in Normandale, near Belmont Reserve) but definitely felt like we were on holiday and enough room for all the family to come visit us for BBQs which was really easy on the kids :)

have you tried the websites that give you discounts on hotels - I think it is wotif.co.nz
There are quest hotels in town and they are ok - there is central city apartments and they are supposed to be good. We stayed at the west plaza a few months ago and thought it was good - though we didn't take the kids.

Hehe, my boy was conceived at the Quest on Johnston in the central city so is 'family friendly' in that sense
I got my stay there cheap through one of those last minute deal sites - but I guess they're not so great when you need to plan

Bah! Hutt Holiday Park wouldnt let us book for only 2 nights because the weekend we'll be there has a public holiday (I didnt realise when I booked our flights or we'd have stayed an extra day).
But I looked on Holiday Homes and ended up booking a studio apartment in a similar area that fits within our budget
