Hi everyone

Does anyone know any good places to walk in the Auckland area? We usually just do Tamaki Drive, Cornwall Park or round and round Western Springs lol! But surely there must be some neat walks out there somewhere that are a good length and buggy friendly? I'm from Coromandel and am starting to miss the bush/beach walks there!!

Thanks!

Do you know where the Arataki Visitors Centre is on Scenic Drive? There are heaps of nice bush walks heading out from there and I'm pretty sure the visitors centre has a walking map. Also Kauri Cascades Forest on the way to Bethells is great and IMO is a jewel in the crown of the Waitakeres (maybe a little biased).

All the local councils have walks listed on their websites too and are a good way to discover your area

Good idea for a thread. I have only been on one of the walks at the Arataki Visitors centre but it is pram friendly and there is a nice kids area in the centre itself.

The domain also is a nice place to go walking.

we live out west too and sometimes go around the trusts stadium while DP trains.

I would love to know some other nice walks as well :)

Lots of nice walks out Mangere Bridge way. Along the water, past the playground and then through Ambury Regional park - has a petting zoo sort of thing there - and then from there heaps of coastal walkways paths. You could conceivably walk for maybe 15 kilometres.

The Domain in town is nice to walk through.

Devonport waterfront.

Long Bay beach.

Muriwai beach - although its quite a drive to get there.

When Oli was small and would sleep in his buggy - I used to sometimes walk along Ponsonby / K'Rd just for something different!

Parnell Rose gardens - not a long walk around, but pretty at the right time of year!

You might want to check out Wonder Walkers

They have loads of walks listed for the entire country broken down by region then by area .. it also describes each walk, has a link (if appropriate) and a map.

eta - you need to select Walk info on the main menu or just go here

The Huia dam walk is ok with a buggey, the parking area is just off the scenic drive.
There's the coast to coast from town to Onehunga you can do bits of it.
Mt Eden, around Westhaven is nice with all the yachts

There is also the Botanical Gardens just at the Off ramp at Manurewa too - there are some nice places for photos in there too if you want to get some cute ones of bubs in the flowers :)

What a great idea for a thread.... I was going to recommend the Botanical Gardens in Manurewa... but KasS bet me to it! (great minds think alike) there is also a great cafe there... so it is an ideal place to catch up with friends.... there is also lots of room for toddlers to play...inc a special garden designed especially for kids...
