Topic: Playing With Baby Posted: 12 September 2006 at 9:56am |
Hey All,
I was wondering if you could let me know what you or other mums you know of do with their under 6 week old baby when they are awake.
All i can think of for Ethan is to talk to him and give him tummy time etc.
Thanks

That's about all they need! At that age, they're mostly just interested in faces and voices so sing and talk and tell him stories. It might not seem like much but they learn and develop from it like you wouldn't believe!

Has he got a play gym? You can make one out of your clothes rack and some little toys hanging from the lower racks. I used to always lay Hannah under hers for no nappy time and she loved lying there looking at them. Its also good for them as it encourages them to start reaching out and if they have a good kick around uses up some of their energy.
Reading stories is always good. Moving their hands and legs around, clapping their hands and cycling movements with their legs are good so they learn where all their bits are.
Ummm, thats all I can think of now. Oh and if its a nice day going for a walk outside or looking at trees movingn in the breeze...

If you have warm weather, you could take him outside for a bit of no nappy time on a blanket and he can watch the grass move and the trees.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I agree with all the above. Play Gym worked great for Zaara too. She also enjoyed just listening to us (lucky we have large family so always some one there to talk to her)...and yah going out side..she loves trees to this day!
You will soon know what he likes....

I used to sit Olivia in her bouncinette, turn on her musical piano that plays songs, then sing and move along her arms and legs as a little bit of fun, it still is her favourite

Maya loved the Baby Gym and the bouncinette, and I used to read to her. Felt like an absolute dick doing it since she showed no interest at all, but she gradually picked up on the idea as she got older.

Mikey used to love lying outside under a tree when it was sunny, he'd just stare at the leaves moving in the breeze for ages. it was some nice time-out for me too i could just sit there with him and read a book.
also singing little songs and moving his arms it time to the music. basically i'm just repeating what everyone else has said i think, but yea, they're all good ideas.
just have fun with him!
