Topic: Poll for aticle on New Years POST baby Posted: 17 November 2008 at 1:58pm |
Hi everyone
I am writing an article on celebrating New Years eve POST baby, so am doing an informal poll.
I would like to know what you do or intend doing and what you used to do for what used to be the social event of the year, lol.
Last year we went to the family evening down ont he Picton foreshore, however it got really cold. so I packed hubby off to the pub and mum and I brought kids home, I think I watche dlittle britan al night and went to bed at 11.pm. i'm sure I was on here talking to Nikki? or was that the year before? did nothing then, either, had been at a bbq, but got cold and came home (was preggers)
The first NYE as a mum, we had a big bbq and a singstar party. Was Fab. Might do the same this year.

Prior to Lauren we used to have a massive party with all our friends wherever we were camping for Christmas. We would stay up all night, drink far too much alcohol and spend the next 3 days recovering.
Now we have Lauren, we still go camping at Christmas but with our families instead. New Years Eve ends up being very quiet, not much drinking and in bed before midnight! Kids and hangovers are not a fun mix!!
What Nana's we have become

I'm boring
Prior to Daniel I was in bed by midnight unless I was working the evening shift. I see it as just another day lol, so our first new years was much the same
This year though we will be in Waihi and staying with one of my friends so may stay up if he is and watch movies or something sedate lol

We are usually camping and everyone drinks a lot, this year once Jack is in bed will be no different. Mind you, our social life has actually improved since having Jack as we make the most of every occasion to get out, so we're probably not the 'norm'.

Previous years has usually been with friends and drinking. Mostly have gone away to a bach or camping.
This year we will be in Aussie, so will have Mum to babysit, so we will probably go out as well! Re; a hangover, I'm breastfeeding so will only have a few drinks, express any necessary feeds and my darling mother will feed Hayley an EBM bottle and let me have a lie-in

Pre baby we spent New Years camping and the whole camp ground would have a big party dancing and drinking all night long.
Since having Kids we have decided to stay ay home. One year we went camping just down the road, but it was hard work! I think the last 2 years we held it at our place so we could put the kids to bed. They always finished soon after midnight but we still managed to have a lot of fun. And when I havent been pregnant it was one of the few times in the year I would atcually drink.
This year I would imaging to be much the same but I'm hoping someone else will choose to host it.
Edited to finish what I was saying :P

The new years before I got preg we went with DH's family into town to watch the clock strike midnight- there were bands playing on a stage and the mayor gave a speech,...woo hoo! NOT!
The 2 years before that we were in London and we partied hard all night.
Before that I usually worked each new years so did nothing.
Since having isla we have stayed home the first year (Isla was only 2 months old), and gone to bed way before midnight, last year we were up in Auck and mum and dad had Isla, and we went to a bbq/party at one of my old school friends,..we left before midnight tho, lol!
Hoping to do something this year, something with friends, and something with alcohol!!
Edited cos I competley forgot we actually did kinda do somehting last year- even tho we left before midnight!

Practically everyone we know has kids so we've hosted or attended a BBQ and a few drinks at home and saw in the New Year for years now, kids in tow.

Prior to Oli's arrival we used to head out to Piha and spend the evening with some good friends, have a slap up meal, drinks lots of lovely wine / bubbly and then let fireworks off on the beach at midnight. It would always be followed on NY Day morning with a huge cooked brekkie....yummo!

Prior to kids, we would stay home, watch tv and look out the window to see the fireworks at the skytower go off at midnight if we were still awake..

We either go to a BBQ or stay home, never been much for hitting the town. Will be the same thing this year.

I spend most of the time sulking that I didnt get the birthday presents I wanted , (my birthday is the 30th ) ....
No, tbh it hasnt changed much , before C I used to go away with friends, but we all got over that pretty quickly, I still manage to do something with friends on New Years eve ....
am sort of tempted this year tho , to have it with my man and my girl ....the friends I usually do new years with don't have kids (except for one) and besides Its not like i would be drinking .
My idea of a perfect night these days is staying at home watching movies with DF ....
The more I think of it,..the more Im tempted to tell everyone Im not going to be around for new years ...

we used to go out to the pubs of course or i remember a great NYE at one of our mates places where there was a big as party, also lots of fun.
After kids it was generally just invites over close friends that weren't up to anything "single-ish" and have a few drinks and a laugh.
Now that the girls are older, last year we went into the square here in palmy for the concert, originally only went for a little look but then thought we'd stay so came home, bundled the girls up in their winter woolies and got blankies and picnic rug etc and the girls little sleeping bags and off we went - was actually really nice spending that time together.

Oooh Annie, letting down the team with a typo in the header
We're usually in Sydney so take Maya to the 9pm firework display then come home and see in the NY at my parents place. I started losing our baby on NYE '05/'06 so it's been a bit of a fizzer for me since then.
