I think its fine to eat as it's a healthy snack normally (the not buttered kind I mean), it's not mentioned in the "food safety in pregnancy guide" I have. I like icing sugar on mine

Lordy, popcorn can't off the list as well? First hummus, now popcorn ...
I haven't heard anything about popcorn being unsafe myself

Ha ha, this reminds me of my Mum - she ate copious amounts of popcorn while she was pregnant with my sister. I'd get up at like 2am and she'd be making a batch (in the pot too not the microwave).
She won't touch popcorn with a barge pole now (16 years later).
Oh, and my sister turned out fine (ish )

haha im thinking of eating popcorn now.....mmmm, wonder if it tastes good with hummus?
Im going to have to avoid this website if it keeps making me want to eat, im sure I will get fat enough over the next few months anyway!
bubie - did your MW give you a bounty pack? It has a pamphlet inside which tells you what you can and can't eat, but like someone said in the hummus thread - its only a rough guideline. My mums GP made her drink Guinness with me to increase her iron levels, and DHs mum ate mussels the whole way through her 3rd pregnancy - so things are probably a bit PC these days, i think each person just has to decide what is sensible for them Go eat your popcorn!

New Zealand Food Safety Authority has a great site for pregnancy. I printed the list of when I was first pregnant - was great as at a quick glance I had my answer! Handy Guide to Food Safety in Pregnant towards the bottom of the page.

Popcorn was my obsession when I was pregnant and DD is fine.
I would eat it all day (the butter microwave stuff) and used to get really sh!tty if DP wanted some.....was totally against sharing!

I never thought about it I guess the buttered kind could be risky but very low risk. If your worried you should try Act microwave kettle corn. It's so freakin delicious my vegan friend introduced me to it. It's more sweet than salty. It's all I eat now. They have it at countdown. Microwave for 2 min 20 seconds for perfect popcorn

Act II Kettle Corn is the BEST! soooo yummy!
The only popcorn I would be a bit concerned about is the stuff at cinemas etc that sits around for ages - there are a LOT of food poisoning type complaints received by the officials about that sort of thing!

OMG if you guys like the Act II Kettle corn you should try making the real thing sometime. It tastes even better when made with real sugar.

em26 - make it on the stove (just normal kernels) with a bit of olive oil and loads of salt, its so easy and so yummy! After making it this way, i found the actII stuff tasted pretty processed and plasticy.
