hehe nice subject heading isn't it!
Am wondering if someone has any advice...my friends baby is nearly 8 weeks old and every night has a massive power spew. Because she isnt losing weight everyone is telling my friend not to worry about it but of course she is (as i would too). Shes taken baby to a cranial osteopath and seen a lactation consultant but neither have had any ideas or suggestions.
Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have ideas for things she can try to stop this happening?
Thanks

Lol, my daughter did this at the same age - she'd cover me from head to toe, the wall, all the bedding, the carpet. It was amazing how much spew there was. She grew out of it once she started spending more time on her tummy. For now, there is nothing she can do apart from making sure that she's got some clean bed linen and clothes ready so she can change everything. It's horrible and scary, but it will get better.

Has she seen the GP? I think with power spewing, you want to rule out pyloric stenosis (issue with the sphincter at the top of the tummy) but usually with PS it gets worse. We had power spews, and found out there was a medical condition underlying it (but also had weight issues) which is why I always say go and get checked!

My boy power spewed for a long time he has eventually grown out of it and now just spills everywhere.
Has she tried regularly burbing baby during the feed. YOu say its just at the even could she be overfeeding baby at this point thus making baby sick?
I found that sitting my little babe in an upright position for a good 15minutes after a feed really helped reduce the spewing.

Like Fliss, I'd also get it checked. There's a difference between power chucking and spilling, and doctors normally prefer to rule stuff out when it is a power spew.

For peace of mind, I'd go see the doc.

We had that, but Joel was really sick at the time and was swallowing lots of mucus so he was being sick up to 6 times a day all through his bed (he was only 3 weeks). Took a couple of weeks to clear, but he is still pretty spilly now. We had the end of his bed raised for 4 months and that seemed to help.

Also - can be related to baby being tired and then overfed. My first used to power-chuck especially late afternoons. He was always a spilly baby but in late afternoons or evenings when he was tired he would cover everything! Make sure baby is burped several times during feed to prevent bubbles of wind being trapped and dont jiggle baby too much (or over-stimulate) later on in day when baby is tired. They do grow out of it - my boys are all good now.

Ethan used to power chuck heaps, my MW told me to cut out high acidity foods. Especially things like Dolmio pasta sauce, and thats what it was, we were eating heaps of pasta and quick meals like that at the time, and as soon as i cut out tomato sauces he stopped.

Hi there, My middle daughter had this problem, we used to call her Chuck She was forever Power vomiting all over the room. The doctor prescribed something for her, a liquid that you gave prior to breastfeeding or mixed with her bottle and it stopped !! Thank goodness - so so much washing involved with a spewy baby !!
