I have read a few of the threads on prefolds but have a few extra questions as I am interested in getting some for this baby for the first month or 3
1. people have said they are not as absorbant as other systems. Approx how long would they last on a newborn - say a std wetter? Or alternatively how many do you think you would go through in a 24hr period?
2. could you add a MF booster and/or a Mircofleece liner?
3. I only know of Real Nappies, what other prefold brands are out there?
4. People have said they need to be soaked, why? Can't I just rinse off the dirty nappies and then 'dry' pail?
I never soaked mine and they were fine. I have a whole lot to sell at some stage if anyone is interested. I'm also finding they are working well to soak up booby at the moment whilst my milk supply is settling down
- I use prefolds fastened with a snappi inside a bummis wrap and have found this the best way to contain my daughters poo. They do seem to be just as absorbent as other cloth nappies. I leave the nappy on for about 3 hrs and haven't had any leaks. I have used prefolds trifolded inside the wrap but the poo tends to leak out sometimes.
- you can use a booster and liner if you want, but I haven't needed to. I just rinse the poo off the prefold if it's really bad and then dry pail it.
- the best prefolds i have, I got from Snazzipants. unbleached.
- i haven't needed to soak them and they clean up fine.
i use ecobots prefolds. Never had a leak!!!! we change about every 3-4hours during the day and then one nappy through the night (with an extra insert). My boy is a heavy wetter. A dissposable will leak at night but our prefolds wont
My boy is three weeks old and he is in prefolds. I change him around 3-4 hourly and never have had a leak.
I use bambino mio covers and also ecobots covers.
I sometimes soak, sometimes dont - either way they come up nice and clean.
