This is driving me insane atm! What can I do to help get a decent sleep?

I go to sleep fine in the evenings, but then either DD wakes me around midnight or I might get to 2am before I need to pee, and from then on I'm struggling to get back to sleep. Usually I've just nodded off when DD wakes up for the day at 5-5.30 am. So I'm way short of sleep and would dearly love to get more before #2 arrives. This has been going on for a couple of months now and it's extra sleep deprivation I can't really afford.

For those who've suffered this before, what worked to get you back to sleep?

I get up and have a cup of tea, watch a bit of tv and then go back to bed an hour later. If I don't get up, I just toss and turn so its best to get out of bed for a wee bit for me.

I had it with DD, i used to actually get up for half an hour or so then try to go back to bed. I would quite often eat something as well. Have you tried rescue remedy ?

Suffering majorly here too- I'm 30 weeks with numb er 2. I didn't get it with DD at all.

I used rescue remedy sleep too but don't find it the cure all. I have had trouble falling asleep before midnight and then wake up between 5.15 and 6am.

Exercise seems to be helping, I'm trying to get out for a 30min walk every afternoon and thats about it. I'm hoping for some decent sleeps in the next 10 weeks but am not holding my breath. I've spoken to lots of ladies who suffered insomnia during their second pregnancies, not sure why?

A really boring book - something with big words and dreary sentences. A book on correct use of semi-colon was mine! I could never read more then a page before i was nodding off. Though i'd sometimes get up and make a cup of tea as well.

I got some homeopathic insomnia relief and my ob prescribed me Zopiclone (sp) which is a mild and safe sleeping tablet. I am using the insomnia relief in conjunction with the rescue remedy sleep and it really does seem to be helping and if I have a week of no sleep I take a Zopiclone to give ma full nights rest as I find the more tired I am the less likely I am to sleep.

Oh, I sympathise - I'm so tired that in the day I can't sit down or I fall asleep... and then I wake up at night and can't sleep Weird, weird, weird. So I'm reading the suggestions with interest to.

Also, anyone found any way to sleep deeper? I find I spend the whole night in a dozy state dreaming crazy dreams, I'd give a lot for a good deep sleep for once!

Its gone for now but I had it earlier on in the PG, and it would start after I got up to go to the loo, then couldn't get back, would thrash around for an hour planning stuff out in my head then turn the light on to read, much to DH's disgust. I read for an hour then would usually fall back to sleep. But knackered in the morning, so it's better if you read straight away.

The other thing I learnt from my Mum who used this on me when I was young and couldn't sleep. Concentrate on your feet 1st and work your way up relaxing each part of your body one at a time.

The other thing is if you are worried about something, maybe not consciously, write a list down when you wake up of what is on your mind, keep pad by bed, it may help

I might talk to my Dr about the Zopiclone- my poor toddler has to bear the brunt of my sleep deprived state- not nice.

I have the same problem. I am falling asleep all day but making sure I stay awake. In bed about 10pm cause if I go to bed too soon I will wake too early. Sleep really well for a few hours then wake up about 2am. Not because I need to get up I am just wide awake. If I do get back to sleep it is hours later and I am only dozing so in the morning I feel like crap again.
I did try a cup of camonmile tea and I thought it helped so gonna try it again tonight.

I use rescue remedy sleep as well and find it really good but my SIL tryed it during her pregnancy and found it didn't help at all! So seems to work for some and not others.

I've tried a couple of homeopathic sleep thingamies with no luck - and as far as I know, the only thing I worry about when I'm awake is that it's going to make me tired

But I'll try reading next. Might have to make a trip to the library.

On the plus side, on the many nights like last night, when I was up from 2.30 with a sick toddler at least I don't feel too bad today cos I'd have been awake anyway.

Sorry so many of you are suffering with it too. I never had anything like this in my first pregnancy.

I like reading because I don't have to get out of bed(unless I need to pee of course), I just grab it off the bedside table and have the lamp on the lowest light, it usually only takes 10-20mins of reading and I tend to fall asleep holding the book lol

I had this bad with DS. I used to read for a while and if that didn't work, I'd concentrate on my breathing. I'd make sure I was breathing deeply and from my belly. That always relaxed me and made me stop thinking of other stuff and worked most times.

So glad this thread started! I get to sleep fine but wake up about 3am for a pee then can't get back to sleep and it feels like I'm awake the rest of the night. Will try to read and get the rescue remedy stuff.

I thought it was our cat keeping me awake but we've just had two nights away in a quiet Auckland hotel and it happened there too.

I've had it a bit too- I think it was mostly stress,as I'd wake up thinking:

"oh god, am I still pregnant?", go for a pee, and then lie there for ages just thinking.
