Primary School Teachers

Hi didn't want to read and run. I am secondary teacher so not sure if it is the same but I am just finishing MAT leave. The money you get from the govt ($400 something sorry can't remember the exact number) you can apply for about a month before you go on MAT Leave even if bubs isn't born yet. Being a public servant I could also apply for 6 weeks salary which I had to have the birth certificate to do and did that through through school. The person who is responsible for your payroll should know how to do this. It was a form that I sign and the principal signed.

In terms of MAT leave itself, if you have bubs prior to school holiday and you take Mat leave it will start then. If you have bubs during the school holiday then you can have MAT leave start the beginning of the next school year therefore get paid through the summer break which is what I did.

I'm a primary school teacher :-) When I went on ML for my son a couple years back. If you give birth over the Chrissy holidays (from what I remember) you will be paid for your full entitlement for the holidays as it reflects the time you worked throughout the school year. This means you may get a lumpsum payment before your ML kicks in. You are entitled to end your ML early and go back to work, I think the notice period is 4 weeks or so (from when you tell the principal to when you go back into the classroom).
As fozziebear said, there is a 6 week lumpsum payout that is payable upon proof of birth, i.e. birth cert, although I'm not sure if that would apply with you working in a private school - certainly worth looking into though!

FWIW I had my boy in February, finished at the end of the previous school year at 30 weeks and didn't start my ML until the end of the summer holidays/end of my current years payments.
