Hoping someone can answer this today, as planning on buying a mountain buggy duo today. Just hate the strollers I have.

I have been looking at Mountain Buggies for ages, they seem to go for $300 even when quite a few years old and well worn. Having already bought two prams off trademe am reluctant to do so again or spend so much for secondhand don't want another lemon.

So am wondering what people think of the quality now? I have found a MB duo or duet on special for $730 (no sun shade/rain cover or extras). They seem to be cheaper since they are made in china too?

I am planning I to use it for 18mth or so (the twins are already 18mths almost) then if still in good order I will sell it.

Hiya

I have a MB duo bought in 2010 and a single MB bought in 2008 and I can tell the difference between makers but not on the quality. To me it seems the same quality they have only changed things like the way the belt does up and the ties on the sun/rain cover.

Hi jules

We have 3 MB's (don't ask lol)....they include a double urban 2009 (last of the NZ made ones), a single urban 2009 and a swift (1920 hahaha just kidding).
They are all awesome quality and def worth investing in. I've looked at the China made models and wondered if they weren't as sturdy? By that I just mean they may be lighter, and the configuration of the bits and pieces are a bit different as Mango said. $730 is a good price, however you could get a double with all the covers etc on TM for that price or less....we got our double and our swift off there

Thanks Emmecat. I have ordered a MB duo and when it arrives I can then decide between it or the duet already in store I can't wait :)

I have been looking at mountain buggies on trademe for a year, I would love to have seen a bargain but no they tend to sell on TM at too high a price in my opinion considering they are secondhand and already well used. I do live in the south island and notice they sell for higher here. Sometimes its only $200 -300 less than new. I have already bought two buggies secondhand and in retrospect don't think it was a good decision as no warrenty and you can have issues getting parts for an older model.

I can't comment on the new ones, but we have one of the pre-loved NZ made ones and it is still going strong after about 4 babies and dates back to 2002. We can still get parts for it too. The basinnette and stroller fittings are similar enough that new covers etc all fit. Not sure what other parts you'd need?
I think a 2nd hand mountain buggy would be a great buy and personally I'd be reluctant to buy a chinese-made one when ther are so many kiwi-made ones for sale.

We've also got one of the last NZ made doubles and one thing that stood out for me when getting it (the china made ones were also available at that time) was that the NZ one had a 4 year warranty and the china one, only a 12 month warranty.
