Topic: RAAAAAANT. Posted: 28 February 2008 at 9:57am |
I received a letter in the post today saying that I was going to have to appear at court for an unpaid fine unless I got in touch with the Min of Justice very quickly.
Rang them and talked to a boring woman who I could barely understand who told me that it was a fine from July 2007. Turned out it was the parking fine I incurred when my car was towed UNNECESSARILY from in front of my garage. The stupid council wiped the fine for the towing but didn't wipe the other fine, despite me putting both ticket numbers on the letter I sent in.
THEN reminder letters sent out went to the wrong address because my stupid Dad registered my car under 29a instead of 23a!!! ARGH.
So frigging heck, I have to go down to the court and tell them that the reason I have an unpaid fine is because I haven't received any reminder letters and then I have to go to the Council and tell them they are feckwits and that I should never have had to pay the fine in the first place.
Whole lot of stress and bother for NOTHING.
Right. That rant is over.
Now I have to rant about my Dad. I just received a big long email detailing about his new fancy job which involves a whole lot of travelling around and his boss refuses to let him drive a small economical car so he hires gas guzzling commodores as well as being given a large company car with a fuel card etc - so Dad drives it even more excessively because he doesn't have to pay for it! And Dad is so very freaking proud. It drives me nuts! What the hell is wrong with a smaller car?!? Oh yeah, the lack of 'status symbol'. Bloody middle-aged white males and their complexes about status. *mumble* *grumble* environmental disaster *mumble* He has the nerve to then go on about the drought in the Waikato (he's a farm manager/"dairy acquisitions manager") which I could quite happily link to the environmental degradation that he is single handedly bringing about on Earth. (Well, not quite the same but he fails to see the link. Or fails to practise any form of environmentalism despite leading environmental projects in Rotorua. ARGH THE HYPOCRISY!)
Ok. Rant over. Apologies. Just needed to get it out.

Rant away!
I hate when things like that happens- other people stuff up so you have to fix everything!
As for your Dad- play the 'your ruining the world for your grandchildren' card Tell him to get a hybrid, then people won't think hes a t**ser

haha Jen - that's pretty much what I emailed back to him. He's just such a freaking jerk with his attitude to cars - oblivious to the effects. Anyway, hopefully he'll listen to me. I don't count on him doing anything about it, but atleast if he starts thinking how his actions affect others.
And catrad - yeah. The council wiped it though... the practise is usually that they wait for a complaint first but obviously some parking warden was having a bad day!
I highly advise writing a letter if you think it was unjust... although I must say that they do state clearly the 2hr thing. It's stupid though.

There was something on target on TV3 on Tuesday night about parking tickets and how some guy in Tauranga took the council to court and won.

When do you go to Court Nikki? You know what I'd be tempted to do - call the media!! Go on, "Car Towed From Owner's Driveway" would make a great headline!!

I only have to call in at court... it's if I don't do that, then they would get me in there properly
I went in today. I have to apply to have them off my back by explaining that the reminder notices went to the wrong address. Then I have to write another letter to the Council asking will they please wipe the fine. AGAIN.
I went looking for the letters and it seems I have thrown them away (thinking it was all over with!) - that'll teach me for cleaning!
P.S. Leish, I won't hold it against ya Unless you were the one who towed my car? hehe I think it is just an unfortunate series of events. Just stressed me out this morning.
