okay - background info; seven years ago my father dropped dead. luckily he was at the hospital at the time and was revived. he had a artery blockage which they fixed with a stent, whcih is alike a little spring keeping the part open.

fast forward. Dad had another "episode" and has been banned fdrom working until he has a heart test so has come to visit and has honestly frustrated the HELL out of me. First there is the fact that he has to have a heart bypass in the next few years - if not sooner, and that he has JUST been released from hospital what does he do the day he's released? go to the pub! He stayed for our dsays and in that time went threough 8 packs of cigarrettes and 36 bottles of beer!!! he cornered lewis and began telling him about relationship problems (including his "relationship" with my step-mother. poor lew is still having nightmares about that), and has been taking it upon himself to tell me what i should do - about everything

"buy this when they are on special" (oh really? what a novel idea)
You need to make suree the boys eat a lot of vegetables (which i do already)

okay, so this doesn't sound all that bad but trust me, in my fury i can't think of any more annoying examples, but believe me - there have been many. Hew started lecturing me about cleaning the house the other day saying that the boys were going to get sick cause I hadn't folded the damn washing!

am really hoping he is going back to work soon - and that e won't split with my step-mother. we were talking about it the other day and lewis turned to me, white as a sheet "he won't live HERE will he?"

OMG your dad went throuhg a hell of a lot of smokes and beer in that time he was here.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

If you can I think you need to sit him down and really tell him your feelings.Get it sorted now and tell him that for all his "great advice" he should be able to figure out that his lifestyle is exactly what he shouldnt be doing for his health.I just think we are so much better to say whats on our minds so that misunderstandings and regrets dont some into it. you can do it gently but firmly. Gosh family can be so frustrating sometimes eh!!!!

Why can't he go back to his own house?

My dad has that heart problem and his partner has banned beer, chips, pasta etc from the house.

I don't find it easy to talk as adults with my dad, we revert back to the father/daughter thing too often winds me up.

he's back there now thank goodness. any more "helpful hints" and we would no longer be talking. He is having a stress test on friday which i really think will result in him being back in hospital - possibly for a bypass.

he came up wqith the idea of "spending time with the boys" while he was off work - hence coming to visit, but really I think it was that my step-mum got fed up with him and shipped him over to me to sahre the burden
