Topic: relations are a b*tch Posted: 14 July 2007 at 11:47am |
So my grandfather died in january and had a considerable amount of money. he left me and my cousins a few grand each but the house etc was left to my dad and uncle and aunt. My grandfather had four kids, but two died. when the second died he asked my grandfather to leave his share of the house to his wife as my uncle was very very sick and his wife (second) took out two mortgages to help pay for his treatment (he had a heart transplant). anyway, so the house was divided in three - dad, my uncle (both alive) and aunt (lets call her s). anyway, Fay - my uncle's first wife came to the funeral and annoyed everyone by being her usual self. Grandad even left her some money (same amount as me). NOW the bitch has contested the will. why she has any right I have no idea. her and her sons (technically my cousins that i am now no longer considering part of the family). what has made me so mad is that my grandfather tried his hardest to do the "right thing" with his money HIS MONEY. and for her to assume right over any of it, when she is not related at all really - and she's remarried anyway. oooooh, makes me so mad. There was enough tension over the will as it was without her being an out and out bitch over the whole thing. sooooooooooooo angry. also, when we cleared out the house she tooks photos of me that belonged to grandad. weirdo.

Some people will do anything for money! Trouble is, by the time it's all contested and lawyer's bills paid, there usually isn't much left

Oh yes if they lose most likely costs will be awarded (b/c in the meantime, don't forget, the Estate has to pay for a lawyer to defend it).

I don't ever understand will contesting. I hate the whole expectation that you have a right to something that someone else earned over their life. I mean, if someone wants to leave everything in their life to the dogs home, then that should be ok, just because you are a relative (or married once to a relative in this case) shouldn't mean you have any rights to anything!
i hope it works out the right way for you and your family.
