Any body out there used or thinking of using a Respisense monitor (like an angelcare breathing monitor but attached to nappy)

Would love to hear if they are any good, we had an angle care montitor for the last baby but things seem to have moved on since then, we loved our angel care for peace of mind though so these seem a good idea?

i never used one but haleigh always slept while around us so we could check her easily.

Yep, I have them on both gremlins and to be perfectly frank I wouldn't be able to sleep without them. Mercedes has two apnoeic episodes as a newborn, the monitor quite possibly saved her life.

I got them because a friend lost her wee man to SIDS in Feb 06, coincidentally enough on the day we conceived the gremlins, which made me super paranoid as she was/is a great Mum and did all the right things etc. I chose the Respisense over the angelcare coz they can wear them 24 hours a day in the car/pram/cot/my bed etc.

When Mercedes was 3 weeks old she began having episodes of perioral cyanosis, which is basically going blue around the mouth. She was admitted to Starship and they did a battery of tests but put it down to reflux. Two weeks later I heard the Respisense going off and went in to find Mercedes breathing but blue, and there was vomit from one side of the room to the other, literally, it had hit Sienna's cot over 2m away. We went straight to Starship and she was observed there and the doctors said it was probably the reflux again, she may have choked on her vomit and stopped breathing. Whether she started breathing again on her own, or whether the vibration in the monitor startled her into breathing again I don't know. She had a similar episode a few days later where the monitor went off and she was blue, but I didn't take her to hospital (was a bit over hospitals and they wouldn't do anything except observe her).

I've never seen her go blue again since, and the monitors have never gone off since (except the odd time they have pulled them off, Sienna is especially good at it)

They had them on 24 hours a day as newborns, now they only have them on at night as they only have powernaps during the day.

One thing to take into consideration is that if you're using cloth naps they only fit over side snaps of aplix, front snaps are too thick for it to fit.

Oh and if you're looking at getting one my girls will have outgrown the need for them by the time your bub is born and I was going to sell them on TM but could sell you one of them if you like.

ETA: their customer service is brilliant, one of my monitors got broken (I won't even go there with how it happened :$, suffice to say that is how I discovered the front snapping nappy problem) and I needed it replaced but couldn't stand the thought of not having it on them, and the lady drove to my house that day to bring me a replacement and fitted in on to make sure it was all working properly.
