So, after a truly hideous six days with suspected rotavirus, we are considering getting DS 11 months the vaccine.
Without wanting to start a debate on the merits of vaccinations, I'm simply wondering if anyone has used it?

These might help, it's some info from the government website on the rotovirus vaccine.
First one is for parents, second one is for health providers.

you cant get it after 26 weeks :( mack just missed the cut off and spent 2 weeks in and out of hosp with it. they have ordered it in for me so i can get Finn done at his 12 week jabs :) just call your local doctor and ask if they can get it in (normally takes a few weeks though) but im pretty sure she'll be too old unless they have changed something

Jackson has had all 3 doses at 2, 4 and 6 months. In Aus (well QLD) its administered orally and is part of the normal immunisation schedule.

Ah thanks for that, just spotted he might be too old... However, interesting to hear that a couple of you have had it done - I'm certainly thinking it might be a very good idea for number 2.

I didn't know there was a vaccine for rotavirus? Interesting that when you get the standard vaccines you aren't informed about other vaccines available even at a fee - eg chicken pox vaccine and this one. It doesn't mean you will do them, but it would be good to have been informed about the options?

Yeah it would be good to be informed. Initially I was wary of any other than the standard ones we had as kids, but after the past week I'm wavering. I only knew about it because a friend who works in Ministry of Health mentioned it, and I saw an ad in a magazine.

We got our boy vacinated, for a number of reasons, and were happy with our choice. He is nearly 3 so it was a while ago, but from memory I think it cost us about $90 per shot (and there were 3 of them).
