Hey,

In the last week, my wee man has suddenly changed from needing 3 sleeps to not I think.

He's never been a great day sleeper, but I realised I have been putting him down when it suits me and when he used to go to sleep and he can go for hours now and just not need it.

So just interested in what other babies his age are doing and how their days look?

I think you and I have the 45 min nappers?

DS has just dropped to 2 naps a day. So he is up 3-4 hours a time. And his tired signs are very apparent when it's nap time and he goes to bed, no fuss.

I was putting him to bed when it suited me, like every 2.5 hours, which he used to do when younger but now he is mostly awake and howls if I get nap time wrong.

So I'm following his lead now and I know him pretty well, I think. Some days anyway!

I've been following a book I got from the sleep store - sleep easy solution and it says that for babies of around 8 - 9 months old they should be only having 2 naps a day.  The first time they wake up in the morning, it suggests keeping them up for about 2.5 hours and then three hours between nap one and nap 2 and then they stay up until bedtime.  I keep to this routine fairly strictly on the days I am at home but if out and about I'm a bit more flexible.  Also this routine works best if bubs has two decent naps, ie if he only has two short ones and its only 2 pm and hes already had 2 naps then its a long stretch to bedtime but there isn't really time to give him another nap.

That was the other thing the book said, make sure they are up for at least 2 hours between end of nap 2 and bedtime or else they will not want to go to bed.  I get around this by varying his bedtime each day, so he may go to bed at 7.30 one day and 8.30 the next depending on how long he napped for that day.

Apparently sometime between 9 and 12 months bubs will start to show signs of wanting to stay up even longer (my wee boy is already showing these signs and he only turned 9 months today).  When this happens, the book says to increase the first time up to 3 hours and the next time up to 3.5 hours.  It says not to drop to one nap until after they turn one.

Well this morning he woke up just before 7 and showed tired signs at 9.30 and sure enough went down at 9.45 very easily.

30 minutes later (his normal nap length now) he was awake.

He's still up now and is not looking tired at all.

He can quite easily manage from 2pm, until 6.15ish he is normally in bed by 6.30

Makes for a full on day!!

Caden dropped a sleep around that age, now he mostly just has one sleep a day.

Caden is normlly in bed by 6.30-7 now as well, and he is sleeping until 8ish in the morning, so doesnt go abck down for nap until just after or before 12. Then he is awake the rest of the afternoon until he goes to bed for the night.

He has been very difficult with his day sleeps lately, Id love for him to have 2 sleeps, but he wont have a bar of it, some days he wont napt at all, so thats really tiring for me, but he will always sleep through the night!

Yeah Jack dropped to 2 naps a day at about 8mths. At that stage I think he was up at about 7am and in bed for the night by 7pm (I think, it was such a loooong time ago!)

Jackson has two naps now - has been for the last couple of months. The late afternoon nap just became a headache!

Because DH does the evening feeds (to give me a break), he ends up in bed pretty late. About 7:30 - 8:00pm. Up at 7:00 - 7:30am.

He naps at about 10:00am and 2:30pm and each nap is an hour to an hour and a half.

Works well! Jackson can go for ages without a nap. A couple of weeks ago he missed his 2:30pm nap, we tried to put him down at 4, but he wasn't having a bar of it. Managed through to 7:00pm and was still as happy as.

Gawd Stuart will only have two naps now, I hate to think what he'll be like at 8-9 months!

Lauren went down to two naps awhile ago, mostly because I was sick of doing 4x30-40 min naps (it was taking longer to get her to sleep than she was sleeping for!) and she seemed to go for longer with the two naps.

At the moment she us up for about 3 hours, has a nap of 45min-1hr, and then is up for around 3 hours and sleeps between 2-3 hours in the afternoons, then up for about 3 hours before she goes to sleep for the night around 7pm.

Kayla seems happy with the current routine of 2 naps, first starts around 9:30-10am and second starts around 1:30-2pm and each can last for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. No problems with bedtime at just before 7pm, however in saying that she wakes about 2-3 times at night still.. I guess she can't be all perfect

Mind you, she is complete opposite to her sister, who at that age was a 45 minute napper, or none at all!
