Hi there, ok this may be confusing to you as it has very much confused me haha

First off my symptoms...

Ok so for about a week or two i have been getting headaches just about every day, sometimes they last a few hours sometimes maybe half an hour

Then i have been seeing little white spots floating in my vision, this has happened maybe 4 times - so far.

My morning sickness has also come back, the vomiting has seemed to subside but i feel nausaus most of the day, especially at night time.

Now what i have read or heard from midwife or friends...

I have heard that my headaches could be caused by dehydration, low iron or high blood pressure

Ive heard that my seeing white dots could be low or high blood sugar - from a friend whose dad has diabetes.

I read that headaches and white dots together could mean pre-eclampsia.

And ive heard that my morning sickness could be cos im tired, got low blood sugar, over doing it, or low iron.

The confusing bit now...

Ok if its low blood sugars then that is strange as most of what im craving/eating is sweet things like chocolates and lollies.

Low iron - maybe - i was a vego before pregnancy but have been trying to eat meat and have recently been craving burgers (which i have had quite a few of) so im getting iron, also my bloods from about 3 months ago were really good.

I get my blood pressure checked once a month and it has all been normal.

I am tired but not any more then usual and i do get the odd nap on the sofa, plus trying to go to bed earlier.

Soooooo this is why i am very very confused, as soon as i think it may be one thing (from googling my symptoms) i then find out im either not having a certain symptom that accompanys it or else i am having a symptom that contradicts it...

Anyone out there at all that may have some sort of idea what may be happening to me...

Any ideas would be much appreciated !!

xx

Sounds like pre-eclampsia to me. Headaches, lights in your vision and nausea tick the boxes for pre-eclampsia. Best to get it checked out asap. When my preeclampsia worsened while in hospital, I woke up in the morning with the bad headache and nausea/vomitting before I was wheeled downstairs to the devlivery suite! I hope it isn't pre-eclampsia and just low blood sugar/iron or something like that but I think you should go get your bp and protein levels checked - A & E should do this for you if you walk-in. Most docs take pre-eclampsia pretty seriously. My bp was normal only a week before I developed pre-eclampsia and then it was through the roof. I definitely think you should go and get checked out asap.

Thank you, i was worried it could be that from what i had read, but my last check of blood pressure was normal so that confused me.

I told the midwife about the headaches and nausea but she said nausea is probably low blood sugar and headaches are probably low iron.

I never thought anything of the lights though until a friend asked if i had been having them, so the midwife doesnt know about them.

I might give her a ring tomorrow and tell her about the spots

The headaches etc could also be from low blood pressure as could the tiredness. If you are craving sugar that could be causing problems as you will get a huge rise in blood sugar and then you will crash with headaches and tiredness so try to eat low gi foods that way it should stop you craving it in the first place and also stop the crash from happening. If you do eat choc etc its better to eat it with a meal when the body can cope with it better.
re the iron, mine was fine at start of pregnancy but when tested at 24 weeks it was stupidly low despite me taking elevit (although not everyday as my memory is shocking), I am far from vegetarian as well, my midwife just said some woman are bad at absorbing iron, i'm now on ferrograd C and feeling much better. I was getting dizzy spells because of a combination of low iron and low blood pressure. Not much I can do about the pressure as mine is always low and pregnancy makes it lower (unless you get pre eclampsia of course).

I notice that I get headaches in the early evening as well if I haven't drank enough during the day so definitely try and keep on top of the hydration.

I would definitely talk to your midwife about the flashing lights as that is quite often a symptom of high blood pressure and just cos it was fine at the last check doesn't mean it is now.

I have the dizzy and eye thing from time to time as well - it started a couple of weeks ago. My blood pressure is fine, it's my blood sugars. My mw thinks that's especially because I'm a light-weight.

You say that you have been craving lots of chocolates and sweets and you don't think it would be blood sugar for that reason. I beg to differ. Those are short-term sweets that give you nothing to keep you going. They are great when you are starting to feel the dizzy spells coming on but you need something to keep you going at the same time. Something like a muffin or a cheese sandwich or something will keep you going.

All the best!! Keep well.

Hi TrudandEm, well im going for my glucose screening test tomorrow.

So hopefully that should tell me weather its my blood sugars.

Ive also decided that unless i start to feel pain under my rib (which apperently is a sign of preeclampsia) then i think things should be fine.

But thanx soo much from everyone, you have all given me good ideas and advise.

Hey Aithne

I had a few mild headaches recently and light headed and had those ehite dots in my vision.....I spend the last few days at home because I had really high BP...had little protein in my urine and so spend a 5 hours in Hospital to get baby monitored...and had bloods and urine done to check if I have pre-eclempia. Good news tho is that I dont!

So all those symptoms and still I am ok....for now! Dont panic but def get yourself checked!

I also again started to take Elevit just in case I am lacking some thing....specially calcium!

Good Luck!
