for getting pregnant...what ideas do people use?

ie, is it true about holding legs up, missionary possie, hmmm actually that is about all I know...

So what ideas do we need to be trying? DF is keen to do anything pretty much...

I wonder about the whole EWCM - does using a sperm friendly lubricant help the spermies to swim as if there was abundant EWCM??

For the last 6 months we have been bding at the right time so there must be something we are doing wrong

That's the thing about TTC, even if you do everything 'right' and there are no fertility problems etc it still comes down to a matter of luck. I think even if you time DTD at the right time you're only got a 25% or so chance of getting pregnant?

Yep, the odds of getting pregnant each month are actually quite low apparently.

When we were TTC we tended to go missionary position and I'd stay lying down for 10 minutes or so, often with my butt on a pillow. I was just doing what the old wives tales told me to do. I got pregnant quickly but I don't consider the position to be the magic trick.

Good luck with TTC ladies.

Apparently if your DH/DP/DF looks at you a certain way .. then wahlaa ... one bun in the oven.

Well thats what my DH thinks anyway as thats all it takes for him to knock me up lol.

I've got a new plan for getting pregnant....

I'm going to book a flight back to see my sister (due to give birth) in the UK in August. Sods law dictates that if I book it, I'll find out I'm pregnant and can't go.

Haha Millie, that is my theory for this month as if this is the month then my wedding plans go out the window! (Jan 2010).

Thing is that if there is a 25% chance every month, then how come after 18 months of unprotected sex, and at least 12 months of those have been tracking cycles...how can I not be pregnant? When there is nothing wrong with me...we have to be doing something wrong don't we?

Jezika - i sooo agree, easier said than done though. I know someone who's specialist doesn't want to try any treatment until her stress levels are significantly reduced as probably won't work... and when I think about all the times Ive been preg I was never stressing about getting preg it just happened... but I can understand how hard it would be to not get worked up about it when you have been trying for awhile!

I don't know if those things work sorry, but I thought I'd point out that for a couple with no fertility issues at all, the chances of conceiving within 6 months (if they BD on the right days) is only 75-80%. So there is a 1 in 4 or 5 chance that everything is fine, and maybe next month is your month

I know thats not much help, and it must be getting frustrating for you. It's all very well saying don't stress, but thats not that easy to do!

Have you spoken to your doctor at all? I think they say wait 1 year if you are *young*, and 6 months if you are *old* but I don't know the cut-off age. It might put your mind at ease to have a chat and maybe some tests?

Have you tried using OPK to check you are BD on the right days?

Otherwise, just keep BD

Oh I have seen specialist and there is nothing wrong with me of DF. Even had a lap done, so know tubes are all clear and everything.

And yip, do OPK and check EWCM and now started temping.

Stopped drinking coffee and on diet to lose weight. Don't smoke, hardly drink at all, don't do drugs.

Cycles are super regular and I def ov every month so don't see how stress could possibly be affecting anything.

So no reason at all.....other than being a wee bit chubs and a little old!

PS Lilfatty - funny, I think we are doing that right at least!

Well I'm also a bit chubs and on the wrong side of 30 - it took us 8 months to get our first BFP, didn't turn out to be a sticky bean though.
I started OPK and temps after the MC (found temping a pita) and got a BFP straight away so all up to took over 10 months.
It sux having to wait, knowing you're doing everything you can and it still doesn't work.
Hang in there hun

Gees, I hope being overweight and the wrong side of 30 doesn't affect my chances once I get the ok from DH

I got UTD straight away with my other two but I was 22 and 25 at the time... I am losing weight at the moment though as DF wants me to lose 20kgs before we start trying so its salads and exercise everyday for me at the moment to get there as fast as poss

i don't think there is really one sure way what works for one may not work for another. Try not to stress/ bother you too much go out and enjoy your life and try not to make any major changes changing habits of a lifetime like limiting food intake etc do stress your body even if you don';t feel it. It has to adjust to your new regime. Also don't make sex a chore there is quite a bit of evidence that suggests that if sex becomes a chore then you are less likely to concieve it has to do with sperm count and their ability to swim where they need to.

It will happen for you

my best tip - is to not even think about getting pregnant! Just relax!! (easier said than done!)

When I conceived the first time, we had just come back from honeymoon and were just enjoying each other (lol!) not actually in baby making mode - and fell pregnant straight away - unfortunately though, we lost that pregnancy at 12 weeks, and it took 9 months before we conceived Lily!

During those 9 months though - I charted, took temps everyday, checked EWCM, made sure I was ovulating using tests etc etc - quite over the top, now that I look back - I thought it would be so easy to get pregnant again - but the stress of each month not falling pregnant and BDing on my 'fertile' days just didn't help, as well as a stressful job. We conceived while on summer camping trip - on holiday with no worries - no charting or temperatures or anything - and we fell pregnant!

With my current pregnancy it was the same, we BD a few times, but not to make a baby - if it happened, then it happened and it would be great and if it didn't, we wouldn't stress!

So yeah, to cut a long story short - try to relax - it could be the miracle way!!

Please vote for Lily in the Coverbaby competition here! !

We tried for almost a year to concieve, with no luck.

I decided that I would stop trying to concieve so I could lose a bit of weight first. We also had some big parties/events coming up and I thought we just put a hold on TTC and make the most of those before getting pregnant. Funnily enough, the following month I was pregnant
So I didnt get to go to those parties after all

I say just relax and go with it, and see where it takes you.

DH and I were TTC for about 7 months before I got pregnant. It was frustrating because DS was conceived while I was on the pill so I thought getting pregnant straight away would be easy. A friend of mine had called me to tell me she was pregnant I was happy for her but so envious. I asked her for some tips. She told me all she and her DP did was BD 4 days both sides of OV , so basically BD for 8 days straight (she was told to do this by her doc). So I took her advice and I was pregnant that month. It was exhausting but hey it worked!!

Since i started charting and working out when i am coming up to OV I BDed 8 days straight (very exhausting) and every time I put a pillow under my butt and knees to my chest and did this for a minimum of 20mins, but 45mins if there was something i could watch on TV, the pretty much then just remove pillow and towel and go to sleep, so that i didnt get up and it gave any slow swimmers the chance without going against gravity. I MCed last month, but did the same thing again this month, except i had OPKs this month so had a clearer idea on my OV date and only BDed 5 days straight, one of those days being the Day I OVed and did the pillow leg thing and im BFP again..........worth a shot and the only thing you will find is its very tiring BDing that often, and then to lie there for as long as you can.........i got that information off the internet and it seemed to have worked two months in a row for me since i started charting
