   Hi ladies,
I saw my midwife today and we discussed breastfeeding and she was telling me about infant self attachment.
Apparently after birth if the baby is placed on mums tummy, the baby will find his or her own way to the breast and latch on by themselves (can take an hour or so). She also said that it can help the bonding process.
I was wondering if any mums out there had tried it and what your experience was like?
 I'm fascinated by it! |

Ive seen the study but didnt try it myself. Also certain things affected the speed at which the babies snuffled up their mothers tummys. The use of certain drugs during labour etc.

   Hmmm Sounds cool!
I had troubles getting Paige on cause her little lip kept going under...so I wonder if they would still do it themselves???

Joey did this as soon as he was placed on my body. he snuffled over to my boob and latched on in about a minute!!! It was amazing! Very "animalistic" and natural. |

Thats amazing! Sounds like a little hedgehog Ana, snuffling over...! I never got the chance for anything like that I was wearing awful hospital gown and as soon as Hannah popped out she was weighed then wrapped up like a mummy and given to me. No skin to skin and no feed until about half an hour later...

It was like a wee hedgehog or even a "Joey" (baby kangaroo) hehehehe if you will, it totally made me realise what a natural thing the whole birth and breast feeding process is! I will never forget it and how surprised we all were that this tiny little baby knew EXACTLY what to do!

Thinking of babies knowing stuff... after I had Kiya, she was lying on my chest with towels all over us (we were still in the bath) and she was a little unsettled. I started singing to her a silly little song I'd semi made-up and would sing to her before she was born. Kiya quietened down immediately and snuggled in!

Ana - that sounds amazing, definitely something I'd like to try - all things going well of course.
Becca - that is also really cool! Its amazing that babies recognise things like your voice/music from when they were in the womb
... ohh getting so excited now, I just can't wait to meet my wee man |

That sounds amazing! I never did the skin to skin thing, being in the water I was just in too much of a hurry to get out and get spruced up!
Along the lines of your singing tho Becca, Quinn used to go nutty in my belly when a certain type of music used to come on the radio and I still notice even now, almost two years later that this is still the same music that he gets up a boogies to!! Are they fabulous!

The self attachment thing sounds amazing.. I've heard of before too, but didn't think about it after I gave birth.
I played a few of my favourite songs to Ella in the womb and then when she was a newbornI would play those same songs when she was unsettled, one song in particular calmed her down right away.. once the first few notes came on and she fell asleep straight away!
