I think firm mattress is recommended.
NicNoc, good on you for trying so hard with the BF - I would have thrown the towel in by now ! Just remember that your baby would rather have a happy Mum than you be in pain.

Our cot matress is rather firm. Bassinet is very sof though...
I guess there are different beliefs about what is reccomended though.
Ella had plunket today, 8 weeks 2 days. 5kg (birth 4.2), 61cm (birth 57.5cm). So growing very nicely, 360gms in the last 2 weeks.
Still sleeping well in the night, 11-12 hours still. I dont really bother with structured day sleeps as we are out every morning in either the buggy or the car doing DD1's activities etc.
How's all our other mummy's doing?

Don't know Mrs ana - Tates been in a cot since day one - his matress is really firm, I don't think we got a choice.
BF going much better - with a 300g gain last week I'm not second guessing myself that hes not getting enough. Nips are still in a bit of a state but much better with the cream the MW got me.
Got a catch up with our antenatal group today - such a lovely day for it! going to Bluff - have a wee walk round Stirling point.
We don't have much of a rountine during the day either - starts when he decideds to rise which is usually 6.30 - then he normally feeds 3 hourly. then bath at 6 and a bottle and bed. Normally has a cry for 20mins and goes to sleep. I've tryed to calm him down but there really isn't anything we can do so he just crys. actually he does that before most sleeps, little rat bag has me thinking its wind but if I leave it 5 mins he nods off. Such a mean mum!

Hi ladies, thought it might be cool to do baby updates like we used to when we were pregnant - I had a go at making one up and filling it out - feel free to change it...
Have also posted a recent pic of Dylan on our FB page, would love to see how much other bubbas have changed!
Name: Dylan Adam (also known as Baby D and ‘peanut-butter’)
DOB: 10 September
Age: 8 wks 4 days
Birth weight, length and head circumference: 3.97kg (8lb 12oz), 52cm long, 36cm head circumference
Current weight, length & head circumference: a week ago - 6.7kg, 60cm long and 41cm head circumference.
Sleeping: Well during the day – 2 to 3 sleeps during the day and relatively easy to settle if he has a full tummy and I get him settled before he is over-tired. Usually does a 6 hour stretch during the night but despite trying we don’t seem to be able to get him to sleep any longer than that.
Feeding: Still fully BF. Would be constantly on the boob if I let him, so at the moment I’m trying to stretch out the time between feeds – more for my sake than his.
Recent highlights/successes: Lovely smiles and giggles when we talk to him. Finally working out how to use the moby wrap – love, love, love wearing him around the place in it! Getting him to take bottles of EBM. Also, we finally seem to be winning the toilet training challenge with DS1!
Recent low points/challenges: Lack of sleep is still a problem – can’t wait for a full night’s sleep… I'm also feeling a bit lonely at home alone during the week, so will be making an effort to get out and join some local playgroups, etc to meet some other local SAHMs... other than that things are pretty cruisey around here.
What are you looking forward to? A good night’s rest and a haircut!
Three words that best describe your baby at the moment: Hungry, content, sociable
edited to try and make headings bold...yay success!

Name: Madeleine
DOB: 16 September
Age: 7 & 5
Birth weight, length and head circumference: 3.36 (7lb 7), 49 cm long, 33 cm hc
Current weight, length & head circumference: today - 4.87kg (10lb 12), length 59cm, 38cm hc
Sleeping: sleeps for 1 - 2 hrs at a time during the day; sometimes longer but I'll disturb her if she looks like going longer than 4 hrs between feeds. going 7.5 to 8 hours between feeds at night - sleep time during that varies, currently trying to get her to sleep between 10.30pm and 6am, but still waking up at old night feed time (around 4am). Only been a few days so here's hoping. Still sleeping in our room, in a hammock. Basinette for sleeps during the day.
Feeding: Fully BF. 3 to 4 hourly feeds during the day. Hungry at the moment - having both sides, had been only on one.
Recent highlights/successes: Lots of smiles the last couple of weeks which is so lovely. Lots of ineresting noises too and really interested in things around her. Having a little bit of chamomile tea before & after feeds helps with wind.
Recent low points/challenges: See above - lots of crying with wind sometimes. Chamomile tea seems to be helping. Really difficult to bring up her wind sometimes.
What are you looking forward to? Ooh yes a haircut would be great. Visiting my family up in Auckland for my niece's 5th birthday. More than 5 hours unbroken sleep!

Current weight: 5 days ago – 5.75kg.
Sleeping: Sleeping 9pm to 6am most nights. Started using a bedtime routine and it is working great. Has a couple of sleeps during the day too.
Feeding: Fully BF. Tried and succeeded using bottle (breast milk) last Saturday (by Dad) with no problems and this means I will be able to babysit my grandson so my daughter and partner can go out.
Recent highlights/successes: Lots smiles and giggles and just started putting him in a Jolly Jumper which he loves. Mum got to go out for 4 hours to the ballet while Dad looked after Ezra. Can roll on soft surface back to stomach.
Recent low points/challenges: None really – a very happy contented baby.

Birth weight, length and head circumference: 2.99kg, 45cm, 34cm
Current weight, length & head circumference: Don't know, she was last measured at 8 weeks! (5.18kg)

Feeding: Fully BF, no issues at all now that she can cope with my crazy let-down!
Recent highlights/successes: Smiles are awesome, she's very close to laughing. Very vocal now, will lie there and talk to her favourite toy for ages. And starting to grab at things more often (although I could do without her grabbing my hair!)
Recent low points/challenges: Being stuck at home as I don't drive! Now that the weather is better we've been venturing out more though.
What are you looking forward to? Alex laughing properly.

Name: Joshua
DOB: 19 September
Age: 7wks 3days
Birth weight, length and head circumference: 4.155kg (9lb 2oz), ??cm (someone put 56 in the Well Child book, but that would mean that he shrunk...), 37cm
Current weight, length & head circumference: One week ago: 5.15kg (11lb 6oz), 58.5cm, 40cm
Sleeping: Slept 10.30pm-6am last night!!! Yay! Fed, and back to sleep again, so this is the time of day for me to get things done. May this continue...
Feeding: Fully BF. Some nipple discomfort, but this is probably due to my Reynauds (something to do with blood vessels).
Recent highlights/successes: Smiles are BEAUTIFUL. A decent night's sleep!
Recent low points/challenges: Still struggling with lack of sleep, but that seems to be something that mums just have to get used to.
What are you looking forward to? Laughs. Facing out in sling. Christmas

Hey QC is Reynauds when they go numb at the tips - my fingers do that and now so do my nips! that and they always seem to be standing to attention which really hurts.
Can't believe the change in my wee man - hes quite happy to lay in his cot and drift off looking at humpty dumpty instead of crying! also got smiles when I got him out of his cot - DH is getting jealous cos all Tate wants is boob at 6.30 when he gets him up.
Question: Is anyone using Infacol for wind? how often do you use it - at every feeding?

Yep, that's the one. I found it really painful while pregnant during winter!
Heh heh... it can be hard for the guys when bubs is all about the boob, huh? Your DH will get his turn. I'm always keen to dump Josh with my DH when he walks in in the evening! Phew!

Blossombaby - my little one is the same, the longest sleep we've had was 4.5 hour and that was once, I struggle to get her to sleep during the day. All Plunket suggested to me was if she's sleepy put her in her bassinette and leave her, check every 10-15 mins, if she cries to get her up, check nappy, wind, hungry then put her back down, quite often it's wind as she doesn't bring it up much, I'll pick her up and she lets out a huge burp! So I feel your pain, sometimes by the time 4pm rolls around I haven't done anything all day and I'm shattered, then I feel guilty!
Yesterday I ended up in town with her with a friend shopping, kept her in the snap'n'go and she slept for 3 hours!
I'm starting to wonder too why everyone else's bubbas seem to sleep a good part of the night, my bubba goes down for the night about 9pm, wakes up normally 1-2am-ish, upagain about 4am, then again between 6-7am-ish... is it something she'll grow out of?
She was slightly prem, but I didn't think that would be an issue for sleeping, she's gaining weight well.
The only thing I could think of at the moment is she has a wee head cold, blocked up nose and I know she's finding it hard to breathe, so perhaps isn't getting as much milk as she needs to sleep through?
Or is it just a case of every baby is different? I keep thinking her waking up all through the night is "normal" then I read some of your bubbas that are younger than her and sleeping alot longer
I only ask because I'm a walking zombie and I feel like I'm not doing the best as her mum because I'm not rested enough.
