Should I be worried?

DS is going on 5 months old, he is ff and according to the tin he should be having 250ml per feed... i can only just get him to take 150ml... he has been on that amount since he was 3 months old... I just cant get him to take anymore. I know every baby is different etc but just not sure it is enough. He is happy and no other problems sleeps through the night etc...
I spoke to Plunket the other day and they said the wanted to see me, but as i work 4 days i can only see them on Fridays, which she then said doesnt suit them...
Anyway point of this is 1 i will be trying to change plunket centre, i just went there and they are closed, i went to get him weighed... to check as i dont think he is gaining.. And 2 should i be worried he is only having small amounts? he roughly has 5 - 6 bottles a day..... maybe he is just a snacker.... I dont know....

Jackson has never, not even once, taken in a day what the formula tin says - not even close!!

As long as baby is growing, ignore the tin.

I obsessed for ages about volumes, and am still trying to get over it now. Do yourself a favour and just watch your baby, not the numbers. I wish I had taken my own advice because it can drive you crazy!!

The only thing I would wonder about, if your baby hasn't been putting on weight, is getting him checked for silent reflux. Jackson had terrible reflux, but it really was silent. He never fussed outside of feeding. If you find he's not gained, just see your GP and they'll be able to help.

I spent so much time worrying about what the tin and plunket said once DD went onto to FF at 5-6 months and I realised there was no way I was ever going to get DD to drink that much, she had 5-6 feeds a day of 180mls per feed maximum sometimes less than 100mls, but she was gaining weight slowly but surely and she slept throught the night, lots of wet nappies etc, so I stopped worrying and now we just do what we do and as long as DD is happy & healthy I don't really care what plunket or the tin say!!!!

Ava has never taken as much as the formula tin says. She is nearly 1 and is supposed to have about 600mls a day, and some days she only has 300mls. Most days she'll only have 400mls.

DD went onto formula at 7 months and only ever took 150mls, there is no way I could ever get any more into her!

As long as baby is gaining some weight and they are happy and healthy then baby is getting enough food!

A good way to check if he is gaining weight is undress baby and stand on your bathroom scales with him, then give him to someone else and weigh yourself again, subtract your weight from the combined weight and that gives you a a pretty good guestimate of what he weighs! I used to do this from time to time with DD just to make sure she was gaining weight!

big hugs amanda, im going through this exact thing with my 11wk old, and plunket is/has stressed me out no end.

Cory will only take 100mls a bottle but is hapy and healthy...only difference being is that he is only putting on minimal weight and we know that he has reflux.

if you are worried go to your gp (you can always ask for a referral to a pead at the hospital)

Thanks everyone...Glad im not the only one.. i just thought 100ml is a big difference, he is def happy and having lots of wet and dirty nappies... So i think I will go to plunket on Friday and get him weighed to be sure and go from there. Will need his 5 month check then anyway... im going to go to Sylvia Park plunket and see if they will take us on... we are moving so would be easier to go there anyway.. plus the one im currently with are so dam useless!
