Was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips ... DD is nearly 7 months and is struggling with the sippy cup. I have tried two now and she just chews on the spout but doesn't drink the water, however she is more than willing to drink out of a glass (I've only let her do this twice as I worry about her drinking from a glass rather than plastic) and will reach for and drink if allowed whenever we are drinking.
How long does it take for them to get the hang of a sippy cup?
Does she need to drink out of a sippy cup or can she go straight to a cup?
I can't see how a straw cup will help if it's that she's not sucking, except she doesn't have to lift it too.
In the heat of the summer I would like to know she is getting water when I give it to her (after her solids)
Any hints or tips greatly appreciated!

DS1 took forever to start drinking water on his own, probably 1yr. I tried every sippy cup on the market - lol. He'd drink from cups held by us and that was about it (and not much of that).
DS2 took to drinking out of a pump type bottle really easily, about 7mths.
Go with what works for your little one and try not to stress too much. If she's not interested she probably doesn't want it.

If she happily drinks out of a normal cup without spilling it everywhere I'd go with that.

The main reason we went with a sippy/straw cup is cause DD tends to spill water everywhere so she can play with it.

E wasnt too good with a sippy cup but super great with a straw, got it first time! Definitely try one of those! But if fine with a normal cup go with that too! The Tommy Tippee cup with straw is real good cuz it can roll around and not spill tho - as they do like to throw these things haha!

Yeah I found the cheap straw cups from the supermarket (the blue or pink ones) were great to start of with as they didn't require as much 'sipping' as the sippy cups. The water comes up straight away.

They do take ages to learn how to use it, my DS didn't really confidently use his until about a year now he's a pro. Nothing wrong with giving a normal cup if that's what you want to do but if the sippy cup is easier/less mess than just keep persevering and she will learn in time, she's still quite little :) I also found at that age the non spill ones were quite difficult for DS to use as you had to suck quite hard so I got him one of the cheap ones from the supermarket as mentioned above that were basic and non spill and he learnt from there and I used the non spill ones later on

I tried one style of sippy cups and didn't find it very good so just let DD go for it with a plastic cup as I didn't want to keep buying different styles and wasting money. Think I actually just pulled the lid of the sippy cup first so she used it as a cup with handles then just went on to normal cups, mostly plastic for my peace of mind (clear cups are the best as that way they can gauge how much liquid is inside). She got the hang of it really quickly. Easiest to put a small amount in to start with, maybe 1/4 full. No reason at all why they have to use sippy cups, I think they're mostly about keeping everything contained and perhaps more portable so just go with whatever works best I say
