Topic: Sling/wrap for travelling Posted: 25 February 2010 at 7:51pm |
What kind of wrap/sling would be recommended for carrying my DS around the airport etc? He's currently about 12kgs (not walking yet tho) and I'd like to get something that I can use to carry him around the airport after we check in the pram. We are planning on going to Aussie around June/July

Hiya Lisa - I would say a SSC (soft-structured carrier)
An Ergo, Manduca, Beco or Patapum.
Since you're in Auckland, I would recommend going to a Slingbabies meet-up. Their is info on their site as to when they are held - you can then try different carriers to see what would work best, before buying.
We have a Beco, which we love, but I think next time around I'll go for a Manduca. So easy to use though! HTH

M2N beat me to it, so I can really only echo what she has said thus far - and add that the next Slingbabies meeting is on the 5th of March.

What they said
I have an Ergo and it's been a lifesaver for travelling!! It's easy to get it on on the plane after you land/waiting to get off then you just go! Easy peasy. Callum will happily sleep on me (or DH) in ours and the front pocket is just the right size for your wallet and passport

I'd love to go to the slingbabies meet up but I'm not able to get there Does anyone know of someone who would have one of these in the South Auckland area that I might be able to try on?
They all look great though..........

Where in South Auckland are you MrsH23?
I have a Manduca you are welcome to try on just for a fit, and I also have a couple of Kozy mei tai's you could try too... I'm not in South Auckland though but could make the trip if you're keen.

I'm in Pukekohe. What part of Auckland are you in?
We could possibly meet up in Auckland somewhere if that works, I don't want you to have to come all the way out here! I'll just bribe my Mum to bring me out (gosh who would guess I'm 26 saying that!! lol)

I've just got an Ergo from Belly Beyond to try for a week, will try taking DS for a walk in it this afternoon but it seems to be so far so good, it's actually easier to use than I thought. Although the back is a wee bit low, and I'd like to compare it to a Manduca.
So does anyone know where I might be able to hire a Manduca from for a few days? I'll gladly pay postage and a deposit, I just can't get to anywhere to pick it up as I'm carless.

Email Jess at Slingbabies (go to the website) and ask her about joining Slingbabies and getting on the list to try out the Manduca that's in the library - I know it went out to someone from the last meeting but should be back at the end of next week.
