After reading the other smoking thread I thought you lovely, wise ladies maybe able to offer some ideas/advice.

Ok... well I only have my Nana as family support closeby. She has a really good bond with both my boys & they absolutely adore her. We visit maybe once a week & help her out with shopping etc as she doesnt drive.
Nan recently started seeing someone after the death of my Gdad in '06. Hes good for her, makes her happy (from what ive seen) & has started spending lots of time at her house etc.

The problem is.. he smokes LOTS & has started smoking inside
Her flat is so small, all the smoke lingers & stinks the whole joint out. Nan doesnt seem to mind, but i now HATE going there. Even as a smoker myself, i find it disgusting & smelly that he does it inside, and am worried about the health of my boys.

This has really started to bug me. What to do?? What to say?? Because i smoke.. And its not my house.. And I dont want to upset their relationship etc I feel funny IYGWIM Im normally a straitforward, speak my mind kinda person, but cant in this case..

Hmm, this is a tricky one. Could you perhaps just quietly mention to your Nan that you are finding it difficult to come over now that her new man is smoking inside, and could she perhaps mention to him, on the days that you and the children come over that he not smoke inside?

I didn't think people smoked inside anymore.

Oh dear, that is pretty tough.

DH and MIL both smoke (and I used to) but they smoke outside. DH started smoking outside when I got pregnant.

Before MIL moved in with us she smoked inside at her house but when I was pregnant and later when I had Michaela with me she'd smoke outside when we were over. Yes the house reeked even when she wasn't smoking but I felt it wasn't my place to mention anything.

Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question.

Whenever Seb is at my MIL's they have a no smoking inside rule. And she'll air the place out beforehand, seems to work ok. It helps that her mother spends a few hours every friday there and has done so for years, and can't stand them smoking, so they just automatically did the same for Seb.

Hmm that's a hard one. I'm constantly finding reasons for Jack not to go to my sisters as her DF smokes inside. Would be keen to hear any advice too...
